[Albion] When you’ve been in the wrong end and had to keep quiet!

The ultimate one for me was on May 3, 1997. Got the tickets through a relative who lived nearby as they weren’t selling to anyone from outside the area and I hadn’t managed to get any tickets from Albion. It got rather tasty in there more than once, more than a few proudly with bloodied shirts and noses and looking for anyone who they weren’t related to as by definition they couldn’t be locals!

It was mayhem when they scored, and when we equalised I half bit my lip off. We moved a couple of times for our own safety/sanity and although they knew around us where our allegiances were we did at last feel we had half a chance of making it out alive compared to if we’d stayed where we first stood.

Still worth it anyway, a great view of the Albion fans celebrating and we stayed a bit longer than most in that end who had trudged off as soon as the whistle went!

Palace away... Was dating a young lady and we spoke about football and she suggested for the following Saturday we go to watch the Albion. Result i thought.... never dawned on me she'd rock up with HOME tickets. Was on a promise to had to go through with it, really wasn't worth it! (and yes, im sure that's what she said as well  )

2 spring to mind, Bristol City when they beat us 5 something or other and Charlton when they were sharing with the other clowns, Nelson scored early, we all stood up and were promptly escorted down to pitch side and up passed the Albion fans who thought we were Charlton and proceeded to climb the fences spitting at us as we were marched up to the Oolice pits cabins in Whitehorse Ln.

As a 15 year old in '75, a mate had just passed his test and got a car so three of us went off to Selhurst without a map or much sense of direction. Having been 'channeled' into the home end, I was very quiet until we scored.

By the time my feet touched the ground, I had turned it into a not very convincing 'f***ing shit'. We moved quite a long way to our right and I'm still here today

I’ve been nominated by El Presidente to post that I’m always quiet when I’m in the wrong end. I seldom get away with it though.

West ham away at the old boleyn ground......just a bit wary of looks when I couldn't resist celebrating our goal although we lost eventually.

My son was in the away end at the London stadium this year. Apparently a few clapped Maupay's goal where he was so he just joined in

How very 21st century

Gillingham v Brighton, 13 April 2010.

The general manager of Priestfield worked for my dad way back, and called him out of the blue to say he could get 6 tickets for him and some friends. Turns out they were in the home end, so the whole train ride up was my dad stressing not to celebrate at all.

5th minute, El Abd scored from a header and my dad goes absolutely wild. Fans throwing bottles etc at us, to the point where security walked us around the side of the pitch to the away end where we spent the rest of the game.

Arranged a visit to Sunderland with an old girlfriend so she could see her family up there, just so happens Brighton we’re playing them. She said she’d only come with me if we went in the Sunderland end (bitch). Think we lost 2-1, but did punch the air when we scored, so had to put on a fake geordie accent “ya ********”

Couple of years ago went to Old Trafford with a coach load of Man Utd supporting lads from our area. Had a meal and plenty of free drink in lounge before hand, so was well lotioned by the time the game kicked off, luckily for me we didn’t score as I was ready to celebrate, thin’ we lost 1-0.
Did piss them off on the way back to the coach thou when suddenly I realised I’m walking around with a freebie Man Utd bag of merch from the day, so lobbed it over a fence in some industrial unit.

As a 16 year old in1972, away to pompey and my 1st away game. I foolishly listened to other supporters on the train down who said they were going into the home end. After punchups galore before the game with running to and fro, me, my brother and two mates went into the home end expecting to see fellow Brighton supporters in there as well. . . .nope not one. Luckily we had the same colour blue bar scarfs as the locals and blended in. We had to keep the conversation to a minimum as to not give ourselves away.

Most recently at St Mary's last month.

As we left the singing was " 1-0 and you fmucked it up". A 'fellow' Stains supporter looked to me and said "you can't argue with that". I had to cough to hide the chuckle as I agreed with him. Hehe.

I couldn’t get a ticket, other than in the home end, for our match v Spurs at Wembley ( when that was their home ground). A horrible experience, trying hard not to cheer our attempts on goal and feeling obliged to applaud theirs. I’d never do that again, I’d rather miss the match.
Many years earlier in the 70s I was in our home end, the North Stand, which Spurs fans invaded and quickly turned into their end. I couldn’t get away from them fast enough and after picking myself off the floor I realised I was in the middle of the invading army where I spent the rest of the match.

Villa away in the cup under Poyet

A family and their 2 kids got thrown out when a 5 or 6 year old cheered when we scored

Then when in away stand re game of Mooy red card, some of our fans behaving not that well, when they went for next 6 pints several BHA fans asked a Villa steward to "have a word" - the Villa steward refused, his exact reply was "it's the football innit" - but would have been happy to throw out a 5 year old for celebrating an away goal if in home end

We also got tickets the same way but managed to get a steward to let us into the Brighton end just before kick off having seen a few fans do the same. Thank feck we did as I would not have been able to contain myself when we scored

Sat with Charlton fans at the Valley but that was no problem other than dirty looks and “so you’re Brighton fans” when we scored

Only West Ham (Upton Park) and Birmingham City .. we were moved to the away section for 'our own safety' at the city game.

Did we even manage an attempt on goal? Awful game and awful ground on the night for me

Early eighties met an old mate in London and after a few beers suggested we went in the Shed end at Chelsea. Proper insight into a different culture, having a few drinks before and sharing the trough urinals with six foot plus skinheads was a real experience. Not in a PPF way though, didn’t get an erection.
