its been bitterly cold this winter, the last 3 years i have run its been cold, but not freezing! i always run in the evenings due to work and its been hard to get motivated when ice is already appearing on cars

That's what I thought. "I have the self determination, drive and bloody-mindedness to run 26 miles. Just as long as it's not cold, anyway". Erm.
