...we had a home game against a Premiership side in either of the Cup competitions?

I can't actually remember one off the top of my head, as both of the most recent games against Prem sides (Wet Sham and Spuds) were obviously both away.

Southampton were a Prem side (I think) when we played them in the league cup. I remember the date of that game.......... 11/09/2001

Yep. Southampton, on the evening of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. I remember a very subdued atmosphere at the ground with Southampton hardly filling HALF of the away end. We lost 3-0 after Bobby Zamora's early goal was disallowed for being off-side.

Well that's my memory of the game anyway!

I remember watching think why do Spurs want to pay £5m for Dean Richards as he was shocking that night and we dominated until Saints scored.

a young scott mcdonald was a right THORN in our side that night....kuipers saved us from further embarassment with a flurry of top saves

i seem to remember either morgan or cullip was injured/suspended for that match so we were a tad WEAK at the back
