When was the last time we won a bidding war?

This isn't a moany, ranty post. Or isn't intended to be. But I can't remember the last time we were neck and neck with another club in the race to sign a player, and won the player by offering more money. Were we not led to believe that CMS was offered a potentially better deal elsewhere when he chose us?

Kayal ?

Weren't Bolton in for him

No idea but Kayal may just turn out to be the bargain of the decade. He's was never at full fitness last season and still played like an absolute magician, namely Leeds and Bournemouth at home. The King of Israel indeed. I am positively salivating at a fully fit midfield of Ince, Kayal and Stephens.

We could enter a public bidding war for someone like Billy Paynter? We'd probably win that war, we'd sign a player and we'd all be happy right?

Didn't someone else try signing Zamora from Bristol Rovers when we put in an offer?

Same for Murray I thought?
Don't think so for Zamora. Although, it makes me chuckle that we only ended up with him because we'd been outbid by Brentford for Lorenzo Pinamonte.
