Steve Martin 64 today.

One of the greatest comedy actors in his time but his last decent film was LA Story in 1991 and then became SHIT HOUSE for some reason.

Roxanne
Planes Trains and Automobiles
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
LA Story

A real purple patch.

Which is your favourite Martin film ?. It has to be Planes, Trains and Automobiles surely ?.

Dead men don't wear Plaid was always a favourite, along with P,T & A (but Candy was the real star of that!).

That's the spirit, Gareth. Bloodied after the Abba spat but still ready to bounce back and take all comers on when it comes to poular culture. Good for you.

Oh, for the record, the early films are class. Absolutely brill but can't recall him in anything very funny after planes, trains and automobiles. Was the 3 Amigos after that? That was very good.

His Saturday night Live stuff was good too.

The JERK is little more than a vehicle for him but it's still a great film. "See that? That's shit. And that? That's Shinola. Son, you're gonna be all right."

I started watching The Jerk on a mate's recommendation, but it looked sooooo 80's...
I'd have thought that's quite an endorsement for a film made in the 70s.

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is very watchable on a Sunday afternoon

Three Amigos made me laugh

Trains, Planes is a superb film - but I put that down to John Candy as much as anything else.

Little Shop of Horrors is a classic (far better than the over-rated Rocky Horror Show) but again - the dentist could have been anyone. Saw it live at The Menier Chocolate Factory (worth going to) a couple of years ago and had no idea who the actor was, but just a great cameo part.

The Jerk was a classic, however, All Of Me was brilliant too I think as he got older the comedy died a little bit.. I mean.. why did he try to do Sergeant Bilko ? what was the point ?... ditto his attempt at Inspector Clouseau.. as time went on he has become very boring and mainstream.. thanks and goodnight

Don't forget he is now highly regarded as a musician. In fact he has just been nominated in 6 (SIX) categories at the Bluegrass Music Awards, including banjo player of the year and best instrumental recorded performance and recorded event. That is nothing to be sneezed at.
