What will happen? I assume El-Abd will drop to the bench? Thought he didn't do too badly yesterday, certanly after the first half.

He is a classic no thrills CB, but with Greer returning for the next league game, I assume he will drop to the bench? Or will Poyet stick to a winning team?

I haven't seen to much of Greer (Obviously), but he looks more composed ... when he is on the pitch.

As much as I love El Abd (and I do), I don't think he is a first 11 player. However he is the type of flexible backup that any team needs. He'll slot in anywhere in defence or centre mid without complaint, do a semi-decent job and will always give 100% to the cause.

I would stick him on the bench, given that most on here seem to recon he had an indifferent game.

Really? I thought El-Abd had a bit of a stinker yesterday.

(Not a pop at you - just an observation of how I read the game)

I thought he was a bit dodgy first half with a few headers and didn't look that comfortable on the ball, but second half I thought he wasn't too bad.

But, that is probably enough to warrent a change?

Yeah, I agree. I always think of the old saying, don't change a winning side.
But we were dodgy first half.

Even though El-Abd has been solid you need your Captain in there if available. Because of his height Adam tends to struggle in the air a bit, whilst Elph's headers go up and out quite often El-Abds go up! I really like El-Abd bit he is a good back up player not firts choice if Greer is available.

Greer has to play. In the limited time he has played for us, his leadership has been evident throughout and he looks a capable footballer too. Will hopefully help calm down the defence when passing it around when he comes back. I think Elphick was better than El-Abd both yesterday and at Sheffield, so it will probably be El-Abd that drops out.

El Abd did not have a good game yeaterday atall - but did have a good game at Swindon. He's have to be the one to drop to bench but he is also great back up for right back or centre back.

El Abd had a below-standard game yesterday. His defending was fine - it normally is - but his control and distribution weren't. For that reason I would expect Gus to have him on the bench when Greer returns.

Agreed that El Abd didn't look that good yesterday- first half was worse, second half he improved. He and Elphick were too far apart.

Would you, why?

I know El-Abd wasn't great yesterday, but over the course of the season i feel he would be the far better player. I've got nothing against Elphick, as he wins pretty much everything in the air, and makes some massive tackles, but i just don't feel comfortable when he has the ball at his feet, he always looks like he has an error in him, like a couple of times yesterday when he gave possession away poorly. His passing also lets him down a lot, as the majority of the time it is a long ball forward to Murray who has absolutely no chance of getting it as its 30 yards ahead of him.
Just feel that El-Abd is a more reliable player to partner Greer
