Well in all my time of being alive, (quite a few years now), I can honestly say that I have only ever known absent without leave shortened to AWOL.

May be it's me that needs to get out more.

LOL, no, that's not what I'm saying. Of course it's always AWOL, but it shouldn't be should it. The "O" comes from the middle of a word, so it should be abbreviated to AWL - I know that it isn't FFS.

Just like d'oh from The Simpsons, what on earth is the apostrophe for? What letter has been removed?

You'll really hate what WiFi is short for....

Is it Wireless Fidelity, or is that a myth?

Funnily enough, it doesn't bother me in the same way, because the "i"s in there are lower case. But capitals purport to be the initial letters, to form an abbreviation of a phrase.

PEDANT ALERT.

Absent Without Leave should really be AWL, because "out" isn't a separate word. It's filed it the same pedant drawer as "PIN number" when the "N" in "PIN" is number already.

I need to get out more.

Still....people understood what I meant. The English language, eh? Mrs May has done an extraordinary job with Brexit.....:lolol:
