I always thought the 12 days of Christmas began on Boxing Day

when I give in to the temptation to buy a box of "deep filled" mince pies. This year that was last Friday.

That happens on the first cold day of the year for me! (so usually August) but Christmas starts the morning of the last day at work.How can it be otherwise?
