[Travel] When does a boat become a ship

I think a boat is a general catch-all term for a vessel that travels over water. A ship is a large vessel that moves over water. So therefore a ship is a boat but not all boats are ships.

A ship is a large vessel that travels the world's oceans and other navigable waterways, carrying cargo or passengers, or in support of specialized missions, such as defense, research and fishing. Ships are generally distinguished from boats, based on size, shape, load capacity and purpose.

When it isn't full of illegal asylum seekers?

Stop the ships?
No, we don't want that.
Wouldn't we solve the problem of asylum seekers if we just simply put up signs telling them where they were ?

As above: you could put a boat on a ship but you could never put a ship on a boat. Voila.

Does that mean it’s a relative definition and any ship can become a boat if it’s put on a bigger ship?
Defining a boat or ship is very much like defining a beautiful woman: when you see one you know.
