its a place where young people go that leave home for various reasons (usually personal), and have no where to go get placed here. Its like a block of flats, except u stay here for about 6 months, to 2 years, if you look after yourself and do well here you get a proper flat, Chichester, Worthing, Brighton, Lewes, Eastbourne, Hastings also have Foyers. I am trying to get out of Crawley for various reasons, and am having a application considered by Mid Sussex, for a young persons scheme there.

I see - thought I had heard of something like this.

Best of luck with your application for the young persons scheme.

I didn't leave home until I was twenty five however my parents, despite being quite old, were pretty open minded. I effectively had a flat in my parents place and hardly saw them.

Naturally they didn't mind 'guests' staying over.

Moved out and supported myself I was 19.

I stopped living with my actual parents when I was 12 though, they moved to India for 6 years and I was settled in school in Ireland and stayed there.

Left home at 17, went to london, worked in the city for a while, and lodged with various friends for a couple of years.......... never went back home ( apart from visits obviously).......... reckon it served to make me a more self reliant adult.......... ie not sponging off the folks for as long as some of the 'herberts' I have met over the years, and by the look of it, some on this site too.

Bought my first flat with my girlfriend back in September aged 20. Very young to be paying a mortgage but its good to be on the ladder!
