[Albion] When did things last feel this bad?

Standing in the way of control
Been trying to think where Hinsh on his own in midfield will rank among our most infamous selections/tactical decisions. We almost didn’t leave the pub for the ground when we saw that. Would have been amazing if it had proved a masterstroke.

Wasn’t really scrutinising tactics at the Goldstone. My memory is terrible anyway. Jeff Wood and Martin Hinshelwood must have done a few. McGhee threw the towel in tactically several times.

Glen Thomas starting at Brentford and immediately scoring an own goal? Micky persisted with Hawkins for half a season. Van Hecke in midfield when we got battered at Fulham.

It felt terrible towards the end of Chris Hughton's reign, I remember that away game at Spurs when we lost 1-0 to a late goal. That night we made Everton's recent display at The Amex look like peak Real Madrid.
It also felt terrible watching Graham Potter's side spend a season passing sideways without winning a home game for a calendar year.
It felt terrible at the end of RDZ's reign when he was poking at the club for failing to back him after the club had previously sanctioned the signing of Fati and Mahmoud Dahoud.
It felt far worse during the above spells than after losing at Forest.

I'm actually feeling very positive about our current young squad and manager.

Baleba, Ferdi, Weiffer, Tzimas, Hinshelwood, JPvH, Ayari, Minteh, Mitoma, Gruda, Verbruggen fill me with masses of hope and excitement.
Plus the likes of Sussex boys Freddie Simmonds and Harry Howell coming through the ranks and close to be involved.

My Albionometer is comfortably at an 8+.
We have so much to look forward to.

(But FFS, just sort out the transport)

For context, at the moment the opening post above was written, Brighton are 10th in the Premier League table and at no real risk of relegation.
This with bells on. One freakish result at the hands of a form team and with we hope a one off formation brain fart is not worth the depression.

I was actually more concerned about the Everton defeat where a persistent problem against teams playing a low block was exposed again.

If I may chip in with a reflection from my own experience of supporting Fulham. We went on a similar journey as the Albion, except we didn't actually lose our ground, were bought by a moneybags (ahem, 'Al' Fayed) and spent 10 years in the Prem, with some close shaves with relegation, a run in the Europa League (except we got to the Final 😉) and then midtable battles. I think you are at that post-Europa League run now.

When Fayed stopped investing we dropped down the league and he offloaded the club to some bigger moneybags. To be honest, I got a bit bored with midtable mediocrity. We got relegated and - in hindsight - this was a good thing. A few years in the Championship (the first 2 in relegation battles) saw off the less committed JCL fans and the football was more competitive (you even beat us a few times!). And we won at Wembley and got something in our trophy cabinet. A lot of the younger (under 50) fans who stuck with us through the Championship years are among the most committed now and their offspring are now ST holders.

Taking the long view, you are in a fantastic place, in the top half of the best league in the world and with apparently a very supportive owner. Even if you go down in the next few years, the world won't end and you'll enjoy the journey back.

Adingra Going

Now f****** sunderland are "Demanding" we give them Adingra for the rest of the season with obligation to buy if promoted !.

Something IS wrong within the squad and it sucks , and it is down to FH as manager , the same as it IS down to him to have final word on loans within the main squad .

Things seem squiffy right now. They felt groovy before the Everton match so these things turns on a sixpence.

However, I know that personally, I've essentially written off the season. I'm expecting nothing of the cup match now.

It's a shame but not a catastrophe.

There’s probably nothing in your post that’s factually accurate
Everything i wrote is factual , it is reported we picked up 2 more injuries in the Forest game . Chelsea ( the bank of England - joke :tosser: ) have bid 45m euros for FB according to metro uk , and he will not feel wanted by FH after this loan deal so we could well lose him permanently .

Not wanting to go back over all the disasters I've witnessed since 1969* - but most recently the two big ones for me were

(a) that home defeat to Cardiff City in 18/19.....if we'd won we would have been 8 points clear of Cardiff with 5 games to go. But we were awful. Driving back to Somerset I was convinced that we'd go down. We managed to grind out a few draws after that, and Palace did us a MASSIVE favour by beating CC in the penultimate game. Pretty much the whole of the last couple of months of that season were abysmal, because our football was dire and I wasn't sure we had much true Premier League quality (notwithstanding Pascal and Glenn).

(b) the day Potter left. I thought we were really going somewhere with GP. I think we'd just beaten Leicester 5-2 (should have been more) and were playing some scintillating stuff.

Thankfully, despite Saturday, I am MUCH more hopeful about the future than I was after those two events. In fact, I think I got more upset after the Leicester 2-2 than I did on Saturday :)

*honourable mention for the 4-0 loss at home to Walton & Hersham with Cloughie in charge!

Things are awesome lets be honest. We have never had a better group of players.
Its just a gentle reminder to everyone that the premier league is tough if you drop off even 5 %

In fairness none of the above players have been sold. And there is no evidence of Adingra going anywhere.
The other four players have an opportunity to try and prove they are Premier League quality and better than we currently have.
They will all get more game time than if they had stayed with us for the remainder of this season.
If the players look decent and improve they will return more experienced and will have higher sale values and will have proved they are worth keeping in our squad.
And if they fail to shine, we will have learned what their weaknesses are.

Our squad was too big, and we needed to find opportunities of playing time for some players.
Difficult decisions needed to be taken.

Never. There has quite LITERALLY never been a worse time to be a supporter of Brighton and Hove Albion. Doom, gloom and despair don't even cover the half of it.

Pack it all up and close the entire operation down. Get on the phone to the Saudis and sell it all as scrap.

Everyone OUT.

Please, the Saudis want nothing to do with us, we'll be absorbed into Crawley or something

Things were a lot worse 6 years ago when we were praying for Palace to beat Cardiff to keep us up.

Agreed , my point is , for instance our MF at Forest was beaten comfortably and FB and JE could have easily coped with the game and caused a lot of trouble for them we need their help at the moment . FB took all of 3 games at Leicester to show his potential in a weaker squad , we have Wieffer and Gruda yet to prove their value on the pitch , i know they have not been sold but very often good players who go on loan don`t come back to stay , they are bought or sold on . With Adingra it looks like Sunderland are trying to blackmail us publicly to gain a Prem player on loan , and i can see FH letting it happen - although i hope not , another player not used enough .

As for sales that should be for players that WE consider are not good enough for us , not players like Facu who FH has alienated by not giving him the chance , now that utter Richard (RVN) has decided he doesn`t want to play him and won`t let him return to us even though the player himself wants to come back to Albion . Totally agree that if the squad is too big we need to send a couple of lads out on loan , but not the two most likely to make quick adjustments and help the team . If anything it`s Wieffer and Gruda that we should have loaned out .
