[Albion] When Albion broke the European champions’ 49-game unbeaten run

There is an interesting article on the Club website recounting our trip to Nottingham In November 1979 and also reminding us of that dreadful train journey to Kettering the previous season. Apart from the memory of Gerry Ryans’s goal (in the 17th minute I think) my over riding memory of that day was all the mud we had to wade through to get to the away end!

I suspect some younger fans will be surprised to see that West Brom and Ipswich were top 6 finishers in May 1979.

The dull part of the south coast
The photo on the club site is a bit misleading. I’m sure it shows the Albion playing at Norwich. The opposition player is in, presumably, a yellow shirt and dark shorts. If it is then the Albion drew 2-2. Definitely not Forest!

And Robertson missing a penalty which such a rare thing and the 2000 of us crammed into that away corner going berserk through out the game

It was the ugliest possible football imaginable. Played on a mud bath. I'm so glad those days are gone.
