Tesco had tomatoes for 96p on one shelf and similar packs on the lower shelf for 78p,naturally picked the lower shelf but they tried to charge the higher price.3 people in the queue had done the same thing,so we got the manager and showed him the difference. We went back to the till and he refunded our money and let us have the Toms for free....result!

A while back, in Waitrose, when Kenco first introduced their lower-priced "Eco" foil-packed instant coffee (no wasteful glass jar, better for the planet, etc etc), the Eco packs were on sale alongside extra large glass jars of the same product that were being promoted as "50 per cent extra - FREE".

£ per 100g, the "lower priced" Eco packs were significantly more expensive than the glass jars.

Apparently fair trade goods, including coffee, often don't cost any more to produce. The supermarkets charge what they think the market will bear, and as most fair trade buyers are more affluent, they put the price up. Which is a factor in preventing all goods from becoming fair trade. :tantrum:
