Welcome to the Animal Dome!

We are here to contest the final of the Worlds Hardest Creature X. Who in 48 hours will be crowned champion and will lift the fabled Animal Bowl high above their jubilant and victorious heads?

Back in mid January 39 beasts entered the contest desperate to achieve glory and ready to risk it all for its attainment. Now only two are left standing. Soon there will only be one. One beast who will be raised above all others, the laurel of victory around it's head and the mighty vanquished at its feet. One beast who for the next 12 months will be able to revel in their rightful title as the hardest of them all. One beast who will be the Worlds Hardest Creature for 2017.

It is no easy feat to reach the Animal Dome. In every round we have seen former champions dispatched. The Polar Bear, previously never defeated tasted the bitter pill of being conquered. The Salt Water Crocodile, undefeated since 2014 had his title wrenched from his maw, bested in the semi final for a fifth time. Jaguar, one of the greatest debutantes of all time, the slayer of Polar Bear, found that even achieving the seemingly impossible was no guarantee of success, succumbing to defeat in one of the all time epic match ups in the semi final.

Yet despite all this carnage our finalists have fought their way to the brink of ultimate victory. Now they have one more fight to face, one more battle to win before the world is theirs. Who will ascend to the heavens a God amongst beasts? Who will slump outside the Pearly Gates unable to take the final step to immortality?

Ladies and Gentlemen, without further ado,

The Combatants:

GRASSHOPPER MOUSE

Road to the final:

Semi final: Beat Salt Water Crocodile 75 - 58
Quarter final: Beat Shrew 69 - 28
2nd round: Beat Siberian Tiger 66 - 60
Group C: 1st (28 votes)

There feels a certain inevitability about Grasshopper Mouse appearance in the final. Ever since his debut several years back he has had a big fan base, a fan base that he has worked hard to grow from tournament to tournament. This is no one season wonder, he has the potential to be a future hall of famer.

None the less this his first time in the final so it is new territory for him. Luckily he is a lover of territory and in particular defending it once he has traversed it. Despite being a tiny little mouse GM has a territory of up to 28 acres. A mind mindbogglingly large area for one so small but you intrude at your own peril. First up you encounter his howl. He stands on his hind legs, raises his head to the skies and howls like a wolf. If you are foolish enough to pay no heed to this spine tingling warning you're in deep shit. Because this little fella doesn't play, he defends his excessively large territory for real. He will hunt you down, stalking you like a cat before attacking you. And killing you. And then eating you. Regardless of who or what you are. Kin? Fellow Grasshopper ,mouse? He don't give a shit, he will cannabalise your arse. When he's not defending his territory he's out hunting for food. A hunt that includes the regular taking on and killing of poisonous scorpions and toxic centipedes. But he could die taking on these beasts? No matter, he don't care, he's killing it and then he's eating it. Then he's killing and eating you.

VS

HONEY BADGER

Road to the final:

Semi final: Beat Jaguar 103 - 99
Quarter final: Beat Hippo 69 - 51
2nd round: beat Seagull 76 - 37
Group A: 1st (44 votes)

Honey Badger is no stranger to the Animal Dome. This will be his fourth appearance in the show piece match up - only Salt Water Croc has been in more finals(five). Like the SWC he has lost his first three finals so he will be hoping to emulate the Croc by winning his fourth. It is something of a mystery that he hasn't won the competition yet. He possesses pretty much everything you need to win the title.

He is notorious for his strength, ferocity and aggression. Extraordinarily powerful he can rain fury and pain down on anyone or thing. His thick skin means that many bites and stings fail to penetrate to his body, the thick lose skin around his neck mean he can be caught in the jaws of a much bigger beast and escape death as he twists free and uses his incredibly strong paws to batter his attacker. It doesn't matter who his attacker is, he'll have a go at them. He lives in some of the most inhospitable places on Earth, sharing living spaces with some of natures deadliest killers and regularly goes toe to toe with them? Lions? **** 'em, they aint shit. Poisonous snakes? A tasty snake(even if they get knocked out by the poison). There relentless energy and seeming infatiguability in combat means they can keep fighting and fighting until their larger opponent is worn down.

So there we have it. Two magnificent beasts: one, a howling like a wolf, huge territory defending, cannibalising, poisonous and toxic beast killing and eating headcase mouse; the other a small, powerful, aggressive, tireless, incredibly hard to kill, lion and cobra fighting nutjob. Who wins is done to you. This is the final, so please, please, PLEASE THINK CAREFULLY. Nothing short of world domination is at stake.

For the last time:

48 hours, two beasts, one vote, one winner.

Let the final begin!

I'm going early with this, team badger. It's a nonsense that's it never won before, much like Jimmy White never winning the world snooker championships.

I also can't help feeling that the Badger is very much a mascot for Brighton and Hove Albion. Like the seagulls it has promised so much in the last few seasons, come so close but ultimately not quite delivered. If it fails this season I fear that might scupper our promotion hopes as well. Don't risk it, vote Badger, vote Seagulls, vote promotion.

Emotional Blackmail.

If your animal is hard enough, it doesn't need emotional blackmail to win. Shame on you.

This competition has become a sham. It's about being HARD, not some ridiculous superstition that a vote for HB is a vote for BHA.

These are some very underhand tactics.

The GHM is a worthy opponent, but Honey Badger is too tough for him.

Incidentally, am I a weirdo, or is anyone else getting a sense of Chris Eubank from the HB pic in the title post? Might be the nostrils.

A mouse. So cute that cartoon makers have been ridiculing him for years.

A nice early lead taking shape for the HB. We all know this can change in a heartbeat though.

Vote Badger, Vote Brighton. Our fortunes are intertwined.

Great to see a proper final this year, and that people have started to understand what the competition is really about. Two worthy adversaries.
