Snowboarding:
Grand Couloir in Courchevel
I have also done this on a snowboard.

On this topic I have also ridden the Kandaha (sp?) , Hammerkamen or whatever it’s called in Kitz and the Wengen downhill courses. All were at snail pace and more luck than judgement…I did part of the Hammer on my back headfirst.

I peaked at about 9 or 10 years old.

I played for a half-decent Worthing Dynamo team at the time. We were good compared to many of the other Worthing-based teams but regularly found it tough against some of the East Sussex-based juggernauts in my age group (Hove Park Colts, Old Town Boys, BN Wanderers, Eastbourne All Stars, etc.).

We were often the 'nearly-men', getting late into tournaments but never quite making it over the finishing line. However one Sunday afternoon at Kings Manor School, we made it to the final of a six-a-side tournament vs Eastbourne All-Stars. 1-1 at full-time and the game goes into extra time. With 1 minute of extra time remaining, I received the ball in our own half, took it around a couple of players and then proceeded to lash the ball in top bins from just outside the box. Cue epic scenes and parents' limbs flying everywhere. It was the only tournament we ever won!

Coaching my son's team we got to 3 finals but unfortunately lost them all. He doesn't play anymore 💔

Got to the county final in swimming. Came last in the final but couldn't believe I'd even qualified.

Won some county trophies with primary school football team. Again, I was easily the worst player in the team.

There's a theme

But I'm probably proudest of receiving a second yellow card for pretending to tie my shoelaces and letting a player (who was moaning all game) walk backwards and trip over me into the mud. Well worth it.

Sydney .
Playing for West Blatchington away to Hangleton at Greenleas Park final day of the season needing a win to wrestle the trophy off rivals Benfield. Down 1-3 at HT we pull 2 goals back to square it up at 3-ALL. Time almost up and we force a corner, ball falls to me on edge of penalty box, rifle it into top corner, seconds later whistle blows and am carried off the pitch by my team mates.
A week later it's the Cup Final against Benfield at Wish Park and we complete the 'Double' by beating them 1-0 :)

A 3 hour 40 marathon was probably the peak of my fitness..

But scoring an injury time volley equaliser, which took us to pens, in the cup semi final for my u18s Sunday league was where my football ability probably peaked. I was a full back so goals were a rare thing!

The Harakiri? 78% black? I've done this too but was many years ago and I'd only been snowboarding a short while so barley survived it falling leaf style.

Football - Being offered school boy terms with a professional club

Golf - Being offered a Golf Scholarship in the States

Ended up not getting a career in either as I wouldn't commit to either sport 100%. How I wish I could go back in time :)
Did you take either opportunity?

I can understand turning down the schoolboy terms given the realities of getting anywhere, but the golf scholarship where you presumably get your uni fees paid sounds like a no-brainer.

Being reasonably competitive at orienteering in my youth and playing (albeit very badly) Sunday league football and cricket for a few years in my 20s and London to Brighton bike rides into my early 40s with cystic fibrosis.

I ran my fastest marathon yesterday at 44.5 years old. Still annoyed with my time, I had a dodgy tummy at mile 13, p!ssing rain for most of run, cramp and hamstring tightness from mile 20. I trained hard but didn't bother with the strength and stretching... next time i need to do that gubbins! So, mine is yet to come i feel, but i guess, for now it was yesterdays effort. I know i could have done better, my time was 4h 27 mins

Skiing giant slalom. Won 3 out of 4 races on an icy track against 45 other skiers, held over 4 years in a French resort. I've still proudly got the results sheets and gold medals.

I was the dark horse in year one. Lots of posh British blokes who boasted about a lifetime of skiing from when they were tiny kids, lost.

I didn't Bryan. Silly 16 year old boy that wanted to continue to play both sports as often as possible and was told by both that this wasn't possible and so I accepted neither...

I once beat Mr Harris, the old boy from three doors down who had a table tennis table in his garage. I was about 12 and Mr H was probably around 65, possibly even older.

After I beat him we had a game of table tennis on the table tennis table he had in his garage. I can't remember who won.

Joel Veltman would probably put that sort of thing above his international caps and achievements with Ajax and BHA.

I qualfied for. and ran. the Boston marathon. For those you do not know, you can only enter Boston with an age/sex related qualifying time. Other than this, f*** all.
This is probably mine too. Although I had to qualify and train for the Boston Marathon TWICE, thanks to Covid. Running two sub 3-hour marathons to qualify, I'm not sure I'll better that.

In cricket, I once took a hat-trick. I've also taken 4 wickets in an over on three occasions with my deceptively slow outswingers.

Oh, and the 30 yard screamer I scored for Hurstpierpoint Has Beens which @Kinky Gerbil can attest to.
