What don’t you like about msg?

Do you eat white bread?
It very likely gives me a headache.

Only that which I make at home (usually using a machine).

I’m of course aware that several highly processed foods routinely use MSG as a flavour enhancer. I generally limit my intake of such foods because they generally contain other ingredients that are far worse for you than MSG &/or have a lot of sugar/salt/fat anyway. However, Chinese food often has a lot more MSG than other foods.

For the adults:

Prawns with ginger and spring onion

Mapo tofu

Special fried rice

Ribs

For the kids:

Szechuan chicken

Sweet and sour chicken

Since one of them doesn’t do spice and the other turns everything up to vindaloo it’s very important to give the right dish to the right kid.

Prawn crackers, obvs.

Same as the OP, occasionally try other things but usually gravitate to the same stuff. Often 4 of us, typically would be

Crispy chilli beef
Singapore noodles
Chicken chow mein
Lemon chicken
Sweet and sour chicken balls
Egg fried rice
King prawns with salt and chilli
Ribs

Damn. Hungry now. :tantrum:

Her indoors doesn’t much like Chinese food as a takeaway, so I’m limited to having it on the rare occasions that she’s away.

On the half dozen times I’ve had it in our ‘new’ abode (4.5 years), I’ve yet to find a place that doesn’t absolutely pump it full of MSG - which does my head in. So my go to ‘Chinese’ these days is Vietnamese - I’ve found three really good ones. Oddly, her indoors is perfectly happy with Vietnamese takeaway

@AmexRuislip - do you know of a decent Chinese takeaway??
Morning 👍

Haven't had any complaints from here.
But as you know, it all depends on taste and choice of menu.

If you're feeling adventurous you could try here also.

Have you tried asking @Dr. No

Most of the above but Waitrose do two very nice alternatives/additions:

Duck Spring Rolls
Singapore Noodles

Had both last night along with a home brewed stir fry...

My local Chinese does a spring roll that is piping hot on the outside but cold in the middle still.

Rarely do we have a Chinese takeaway …. expensive for home food.

When we do it includes crispy prawn balls, spring rolls, aromatic duck, pancakes and plum sauce.

The above reminds me of a Tommy Cooper joke:
“So I went to the Chinese restaurant and this duck came up to me with a red rose and says "Your eyes sparkle like diamonds". I said "Waiter, I asked for a-ROMATIC duck"

Big, greasy, old skool spring rolls. Or as I once heard Julian Clary memorably call them, donkey nobs.

6, 18, 49 with chicken, 63.
6 Hot & Sour Soup
18 King Prawn with Pickled Ginger & Pineapple
49 Sliced Marinated Steak
63 BBQ Spare Ribs

Think that answers the "are they all the same" question.
