10 for me in total (includes spells in halls at two unis, each counted as one 'home', and 8 actual proper residences).

Been considering selling and buying somewhere else to reduce the mortgage, but didn't realise that to do this would cost apx £18k in estate agents fees, solicitors fees, conveyancing, etc. So you basically write off almost £20k every time you move - several years worth of mortgage payments in my case! Decided to stay put...

As I prepare to move for the 2nd time within 6 months, and with another move expected within 2-3 months, it had me wondering how many homes I've had.

I think my homes have been something like...

Birth to 3
3 to 23 (I'm ignoring the various abodes I had through university days)
23 to 28
28 to 30
30 to 31
31 to 33
33 to 34
34 to 36
36 to 42
42 to 42 (current)
42 to 42 (home as of Saturday)

So, as of Saturday 11 homes in 42 years, which equates to moving every 3.8 years of my life to date.

What about you?

Where you moving to, Bozza?

I mean, what's your actual address going to be.... BB.jpg

I'm on 15 or 16 (I'm on my second stint in my current house) in 52 years, so 3.25 years average in each place. Much higher average in my 40s, when I managed 9 homes in that decade.

Sunny Shoreham
Born in Lewes and I think we lived there for a year.
Moved to Shoreham and I lived at home til I was 24
Bought my first place and lived there for 6 years
Bought my second place and lived there 8 years
Bought my current house and so far been there 14 years

So, just 5 places in all, have never rented.

Oh dear - the thread I'd been dreading, but also looking forward to:

Brighton - Hove - Shoreham Beach - Haywards Heath - Burgess Hill - Burgess Hill - Burgess Hill - Tunbridge Wells - [ignoring university now] - Toulouse - Cambridge - Hoddesdon - Putney - Chelsea - Kennington - New Cross - Brighton (hooray - back in triumph) - Brighton (hooray) - Sevenoaks (boo! Mistake. Big mistake) - Sevenoaks - Petham - Kingston.

That's 21 in 44 years. Next stop will either be Canterbury, Brighton, Hove or Lewes, I would guess.

Burgess Hill seems to be winning in the "different houses in the same town" stakes - people must move there and ruddy love it so much that when they want to move house, they can't bear to leave the place...???

8 in 45 years, so average 5.6 years, but skewed by moving three times in three years during the nineties.
