Sounds like he's another professional that would rather earn nothing than something less than he wants..

If he dropped to £5k a week as an example frpm £20k and signed a contract he would lose a lot of money over a year but if he stricks with his idea of wanting £20k and perhaps is prepared to take a chance that as the transfer deadline approaches somebody would come in for him and offer him £10k per week or a figure nearer his original £20k so he wont lose so much. It is a gamble but perhaps he is prepared to take that chance rather than settle for a lower wage immediately. So perhaps it is worth earning nothing for a couple of weeks to secure his years earnings.
