What's the problem? Players, coaches or just a losing mentality?

Slade should have gone much earlier.
It was obvious after losing 7-1 at Huddersfield and then 4-2 to a terrible Stockport team that the wheels had come off...but we limped on, shedding more soft home points and losing more confidence.
We are playing better under Poyet but still only in short spells.
Certain players let the Manager down yesterday. He gambled, threw 3 up front, we laid siege and straight-forward chances were missed ( just like Colchester )
Thats not Poyet's fault...he did all he could with the players at his disposal. If certain players can't hit ' barn-doors from 3 paces ' then they have to be replaced. ( Sorry Mr. Dickinson but you were the main culprit )
Swindon could have been out of sight in the first half and we ended up throwing away chances to get back in the game.
A sobering note to end on...had we not nicked a very fortuitous win at Exeter, we would all be discussing a run of 6 straight defeats. ( food for thought ? )

You know what? I think we are going down this year, for real.

Unless Poyet shifts about a third of that current squad in January, they will put us in League Two, I can even see us finishing bottom

Don't you love it when a thread asks questions and the most some people on here come up with is "They are SHIT"?

Spent some time doing a level 3 course with charlie oatway a few years ago and you would be surprised at just how good a coach he is. Didn't play the look at me"Charlie Big Potatoes" just put his ideas across in a constructive thoughtful way - incidentally Dean White was supposed to be on the same course but didn't attend for one reason or another!!

Whilst the players we have are good or have previously been good, collectively they are now weaker than the sum of their parts and have been ever since Wilkins left. Something is rotten but I'm not quite sure what it is. Slade didn't know either and I'd guess that Poyet hasn't worked it out yet.

For me it is 1999/2000 all over again. This squad needs to be broken up, and replaced with a few seasoned pros. There are no Danny Cullips, no Charlie Oatways or Richard Carpenters and that is why we can't pull ourselves out of the rut we've been in for two seasons now, they just haven't got the mentality or the personallity to do it.

When the question is "is there a problem with our coaching staff" when they've been in the job for 5 weeks, yes.

I think Davies would be a very good player for us if given a good chance under a good manager. A better striker than Murray and Dickinson. Always looks very lively and will do something. Sorry, my opinion.

I agree with that, in every department except for shooting i believe he is a better striker than dickinson or maybe even murray, that final department is quite an important one unfortunately

More food for thought - if we had got the goals we should have against Colchester and Swindon we would all be discussing 3 games without a defeat. We need a couple of breaks.

Read the question again you fucktard. He questioned what the problem was and mentioned that it may be the coaches, along with the players or just a poor mentality. Your constant retardedness and putting- down of other people never ceases to amaze me.....

The problem we've got at the moment with the squad is that it's just ok.

The main issue we've got at the moment is that whilst the players we do have are good for this league, they're not of the calibre we need to make an impact.

If you look at the top teams in the league this season, they all have one or two players who can totally dominate in their positions and we've not got that. In my opinion, Crofts & Dicker are really good players but they're both similar and neither of them are able to really influence and able to change a game . What we need is someone like leeds had with Delph who is just aso influential that other teams have to use two midfielders to mark them out of the game. It's the same for our central defenders....Again, I'm a fan of both Elphick & Tunnicliffe but what we need is a Simon Morgan/Guy Butters type character who's played at a very high standard and we've not got that.

I think we're 3 players away from being a class team, but those players have to be of very high quality.

Again, the squad is not good enough - up front and midfield are pretty good, the defence is......best not say what it really is on a public forum

Our players either aren't good enough in that department, or they're just not trying hard enough - probably equal measures of both, and the losing habit/mentality is hard to shake off. I can't see Gus changing things now that will make much difference, he needs to spend and sell furiously come January. You can't polish a turd, nor can you make it into a good team on the training pitch if the raw material isn't there.

Our defence is a turd, there, I've said it

I'm sure your little chum can speak for himself without needing you start dishing out the insults.

His whole post infers that the players should be good enough, and it's the coaches fault they aren't performing. His original thread yesterday title - "How bad is the coaching" - was an overwhelming reason for this.

Ten out of ten for criticising put-downs in a post using such creative insults as "fucktard" and "retardedness" by the way.

The title was a mis-interpretation and was quickly changed. You, as always, read the title and immediately found something to moan about.
I questioned whether it was the players, the coaching since Wilkins left, or just a losing mentality we have been unable to break.

Why you find the need to immediately jump on the thread saying I am slating Oatway is beyond me :nono:

There's not enough leaders in the dressing room or pride in the shirt.

I'd agree with that, but at the same time that makes me think the players are good enough, hence my thread.

We need a leader at the back, we need a left winger. Apart from that, I think it is all about turning our good individuals into a team.

Slade showed at the back end of last season what can be done when you get the team playing together with pride in the shirt. We had most of our best players out (Murray, Forster for a start) yet managed to win 5 of our last 6 games.

Don't agree that to get out of this league, you need the best squad and the best players..

That is the nail on the head. The defence has been terrible since Guy Butters retired, he used to marshall the back four and there is no-one with the experience to do it at the moment.

Is it a coincidence that Elphick has been half the player since?
