Derived from a village in Normandy called Escoville, William the C. brought the whole village to England after filling in Harold.
Very common name it the IOW, very chavy apparently!

Mine is Huguenot/French, I have no idea of the meaning and should try and find out. My ancestors fleed north to Bristol in the 18C and many still live in and around Someret. Another lot fleed south and produce very fine Red and Rose wines, highly recomend them.
