£550ish £5win double on Dancing Bay @ 14-1 and 1 other, obviously.

Many moons ago, while underaged so around 1986/7, I did a £10 win treble. Chester races:-

Murango 17-2 won
Bay Bay 11-2 won
Grey Salute 10-1 (I think) 2nd, it got done in a very tight photo finiah, by a short head. Would have netted thousands

Half time 1-0 Chelsea, odds on Spurs to win 2-1 in Extra time around 20/1 I would have thought

Doubt you'd have got a bet on like that without plenty of messing around anyway, as correct score betting is on 90 minutes and tends to close at kick-off. You'd have had to find someone with a book still open willing to lay 1-1 (no bigger than 3-1, at a guess), and then lump all the winnings on Spurs (7-2 maybe) before the start of extra time. Think Betfair may do correct score in-running on big games, but there's unlikely to be enough liquidity to get a good price.

Does come to 17-1 tho, so doubt Uncle S was too far out with his 20-1 guess.

My biggest win on a single was £50 on Jamesmead at 14-1 in the Tote Gold Trophy back in 1988. Someone I knew at the Elsworth yard had told me it was really fancied, and I was barely out of college and flushed with the exuberance and over-confidence of youth. Even now, I'd rarely have that much on, so it's a bloody good job it won as I'd have struggled to pay the rent otherwise.

Only bigger payout was when I had three out of four on a £1 Lucky 15 on the first day of Cheltenham in 1996. First up was a loser in the Supreme, then had Collier Bay in the Champion, Maamur in the handicap chase and Stop The Waller (20-1) in the Kim Muir. Stop The Waller was 15 lengths down at the last, but the one in front ran out of puff on the hill and mine got up to win in the final stride. I was yelling "Go on Stop" through the last furlong, without thinking how stupid it sounded. Total payout was about £1,200 - if the Charlie Brooks beast in the first had won, it would have been around £50k.

£898 for a £2 stake on the sections list of a football coupon, selecting 4 home wins. I was expecting to pick up £28 and to this day have no idea how they came up with that amount. I didn't start cheering until I was about 100 yards from the bookies!

its all being relative

back in 73 (I think) and being only 12 I put a lot of money: 10 p and 5p's on wins and place bets on the grand national. And a couple of accumalators

I got all the first 4 including Red Rum, Crisp.

I think I pooled £15 or so.

The following year I got the first 3, with a similar load of heavy dosh.

Later on when 16 I outlined to my mates, who had no idea of betting, what had to be done.

I went through a race card, prepared a slip and that was that. The next day we realised I chose 7 winners!

2 bets spring to mind. 6 of us were tipped a horse called Dark Society a few years ago. It opened at 8-1 was backed down to 11-2 and romped home. The bookies run out of money paying us all off and one of the guys who backed it couldn’t shut his wallet which was stuffed full of £50 notes. I think I picked up £600 which was minor in comparison to some of the other pay outs.

The other is Silent Oscar at Punchestown last year. I was coming off a bad run. I was on a stag do in Dublin and had lost £150 in the casino the night before and a £100 on Aces four in a race at Punchestown earlier in the week – It fell at the last and would have won easily. I was woken at 7.00 in the morning by the 4 others in my room through a mixture of farting & snoring and went down the nearest café to study the racing post for days racing we were off to. I had £10 EW at 50-1 and had a further 24 Euros EW at 33-1 on course. He duly beat Macs Joy and I went absolutely mental but was one of the only few on course cheering it home which made it even better – Especially so since I told everyone to back it who was with me and no-one did.

Being a gambler I had 400 euros on Moscow flier in a charity race in the last at even money. It was the easiest winner I’ve ever backed in my life and quite why it was evens I will never know (It was racing against horses with a rating of 18 and was rated at 170 over fences at its best – In other words, it could have lapped the other horses had it wanted to). I was over 1500 euros up on the day and had another £650 in my account which was untouched. A great day out.
