I left a game at the Goldstone at half time. Unfortunately my wife's brother was getting married at a church in Portland Road at 4pm so had no choice.

I remember being on the way to The Amex once, hearing that Leon Best was starting and deciding right there that the pub seemed a much better place to be than supporting that fat lazy c*nt. Promptly turned around and pissed off back to Shoreham for a pint. We lost 2-0. Also didn’t manage to leave the pub before Bournemouth last season. Just knew what was coming.

If you have to actually get in to the stadium then the earliest I’ve left was QPR away a few years ago on a Wednesday night. Was a mates leaving drinks before he went travelling so we were hammered. Got in the ground, sat with my mates & then got asked to produce my ticket by a jobsworth steward. Must have fallen out my pocket as I couldn’t find it, so got dragged out just before we kicked off. Asked how a fat **** who is 6’4 and pissed as a fart would have snuck in but didn’t get an answer and was forced to leave just as we kicked off. Thought I’d be a smartarse so I walked round the corner & bought a ticket for the home end. Went in & sat down in the corner near the away end. Original steward obviously saw me and radioed through as I ended up being dragged out in the first ten minutes despite not saying a word and ended up face first on the floor with a knee in my back. Then had to sit around necking cans until the game was over (finished 0-0) as I had a groupsaver ticket. £60 on a match tickets to see about 5 minutes of football

I have not left early only about 5 times in the Amex era, but it is normally at 85 minutes. I had a couple earlier at around 70 in the Hyypia era, owing to disgust. But my very earliest was at 60 minutes in a game we won 3-1 in the PL (forget against who, West Ham or Newcastle maybe) because our nipper, aged about 6 at the time, had had enough of the noise. It was her first ever game.

Later arrivals, now....at half time at Massive away about 15 years ago, and well into the second half at home at Withdean, on both occasions owing to events.

Bristol City away in the 80’s think we were 5-2 down at the time. Walking out of the ground with 10 minutes left and BC scored again definitely the correct decision.

First game I ever saw was in 1965..Huddersfield vs Newcastle....it was so cold, raining, sleeting and the wind was howling off the Pennines.

We got to our place to stand and according to my dad I started to cry, and he said shall we go and I sobbed yes!

So we actually left before kick off.

So there

Ha ha ha

Good call!

Away at Fulham, mid eighties. I sang **** off Fulham, **** off Fulham etc etc. Got my collar felt and was kicked out, I actually think it was before kick off, happy days!

Funnily enough, that was THE only game I’ve left early. It was April 91. A month later we were at Wembley. There was also a game away at Oxford in the 90s when we were so crap we turned our backs on it and watched a game in the park behind the ground.

It was the only game I left early because of the football. Did leave Plymouth away one year (early 2000s) because of the scorching weather when the kids couldn’t cope any longer on that open exposed terrace.
As someone else has mentioned, it would be great to hear on this thread from the king of early leaving himself, namely pornomagboy

Half time at the Goldstone. Took my young stepson to his first match against Tranmere Rovers (John Aldridge was in fine form for them) but boredom had set in for the nipper after about half an hour and all he wanted to do was go into Hove and buy another Teenage Mutant Heroes Turtle figure! If memory serves me correctly he bought the villain who was a pizza chef!

I tried to leave with about 20 mins to go in the 5-0 defeat at Selhurst. Didn't get very far and stood pressed up against a member of the Transport Police for well over an hour just outside the ground.

Brentford away - I was due to drive to Bristol after the game and we were 3 nil down with around 10-15 minutes to go. Got back to the car to find it had been broken into with my laptop stolen so had to drive home instead. Only found out the next day we let a 4th in.

Also left the Newport League Cup game in extra time after they went ahead and we were down to 10 - was in The Bridge so dodged the crowds.

Not much beyond that other than missing 5-10 minutes of every game I went to in the late 70s/early 80s after my dad made me leave early to avoid the crowds. Nothing more depressing than hearing a roar and knowing you missed a goal.

That Brian Clough game. Left my South Stand bench seat at half time. Walked to Hove station and caught the first train home, which was after the game finished!
Only ever time.

Typical newbie, I assume you weren't at the replayed York City game at the Goldstone

I wasn't. Working away from the Goldstone then. Bad fan.

But I was a regular Albion ball boy for a couple of seasons in the '80s and played 5 a side for the Junior Seagulls, so my conscience is clear.

Just after half-time away to Watford in 1968.
My then girlfriend was feeling unwell. Think we lost 1-0.

44 minutes. Pre season friendly 76-77 season. Can't remember who or why, or even how I know it was 44 minutes but probably involved a girl and alcohol
