The Ghosts of West Virginia CD dropped through my door today, a week early.
Steve Earle wrote 7 songs plus incidental music to drive the narrative of a project/musical called Coal country and they open this album.
It's about a coal mine explosion that took the lives of 29 West Virginia coal miners in 2010.
I'm posting two songs from the album today because it's so moving and yet meaningful today.
The first is It's about Blood and concludes with Steve reading out the names of the dead
The second is If I Could see your Face Again, the closer from the musical and Steve hands over vocal duties to fellow band member Eleanor Masterson.
This is a massive return to form for Steve and The Dukes and I can only say this:

Don't just listen once in the background or move straight on to post your own favourite track today. Listen and say what you think, because the first track brought a tear to my eye and the second just finished me off. I can't be the only poster who gets so emotionally involved in the music I love.
Steve Earle at his best is just the best. Honest, literate and powered by a hell of a band. Indeed, the so-called Hardcore Troubadour.

One of the songs from the soundtrack of Narcos Mexico, those who have watched it will know which scene it's from. For me the standout scene & song in the Mexico series https://youtu.be/wIakkWZIsbE

I'm posting two today as I love both of these for different reasons.

Family with The wonderful 'Electric Goat' himself Roger Chapman.

And does anybody remember Stackridge with Mutter Slater on vocals?

I'm not sure if this is obscure or not... It's a current artiste though, as I saw her singing live and solo on a chat show last night and was blown away by her talent. I've been discovering her tracks and listening to them all day...
