Highly derivative, highly wonderful, pure pop and none the worse for that, Wallinger Karl Edmond De Vere wrote and recorded some great pop songs.......and I will not hear better today unless I listen to "Is it Like Today?" or even "Way Down Now"....

Deeply romantic song*:

* EDIT: turns out it's not romantic at all. It is harrowingly sad. It's about Joe Walsh, of The Eagles, who lost his three year old daughter in an accident. He told Stevie Nicks the story and she was so moved she wrote this song. Sorry, not sorry, in floods here.

Goodbye Jumbo is a great record.

Robbie Williams claimed that “this is the best song I’ve ever written”...

Scott Walker's version is great, but it's Tim Hardin's song, and you can feel it with him singing it.

Yes great shout. He wrote some other brilliant songs too - I nearly went for the Four Tops version of If I Were A Carpenter but couldn’t resist the classic that was the original A-side of Rod Stewart’s first no.1(Maggie May, of course).
