The definitive live version of Highway Star was recorded for prosperity on their classic live album 'Made in Japan', for which there is no video recording of that performance. The guy who made this video cobbled it together using the track from 'Made in Japan' matched up to a live performance from their concert in Copenhagen 1972, and I think he's done a pretty good job. This was exactly how I remembered my experience of Purple when they opened with it at The Dome in 1972, I was about 20ft from Ritchie Blackmore and his Marshall stack!! Deep meaningful lyrics..........I don't think so, but a sound that felt like 10000 volts shooting through your body.............Oh yes!!

Never saw them live but agree with your sentiments. As an aside, their 3rd album, Don’t Stand Me Down is criminally underrated. I have seen written about as a neglected masterpiece.
My last post was Purple in 1972, this was Bowie at the same time, it was a good year 1972.
