Did you see them at The Freebutt? One of the hottest gigs I've ever been to.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/nigeyb/sets/72157623755619859/

That's still the only time I've seen them. Catching them at The Warehouse Project in Manchester later this month though.

No, was living in London at the time, so saw them there three times over the year (missed another gig as well - when they tour, they tour very hard!). I think the Freebutt gig was the tour before anyway? Remember being tempted to come down and see them in Coalition that year.

Dylan / Petty Wembley Arena 1987

Leonard Cohen Brighton Centre (1st gig) Didn't go to the 2nd one.
Cat Stevens (Yusuf) Shepherds Bush Empire about 4 years ago
Johnny Winter And Big Apple 1971
Mountain Finsbury Park Rainbow 1971
Zappa Brighton Centre about 1979
Clover (Featuring Huey Lewis) supporting Renaissance circa 1977 Victoria theatre or palace

That's right, I think it was the day the album was released. The venue was far too small for them regardless. Sun nearly tore the roof off (it was just before the volume limiter was installed - though I don't think the two were connected.)

Boring By Sea
As for Cave, his King Alfred show must be in my top 12. There was nothing between the crowd and the band apart from a six inch stage which we stood right up against. He was so close that I could feel his breath. At one point he had his hand on die Frau's head doing some preacher man thing as he looked her in the eyes and bellowed out the song; I thought she was going to be a human sacrifice. First half was Grinderman, second was "Cave by Request".

Like you I have seen so many bands over so many years and I am finding this very difficult. The Cave King Alfred evening was definitely one of the best- think there was some footage going around at some point which would be good to see again. The only other definate inclusion would be British Sea Power at High Rocks-Tunbridge Wells 2005. Basically a pub/hunting lodge with oak beems and chandeliers from which, with the help of the crowd, various band members were climbing/ hanging from by the end of the night.
Well that's two. Ten more to come up with.

Some random stand outs from my rock years: AC/DC at Wembley, Suicidal Tendencies at The Clarendon Ballroom, Slayer at The Marquee, Nuclear Assault at Dingwalls, about ten or so years ago Slayer at Astoria when the did the whole of Reign In Blood as the encore, Rush at Wembley, Guns n Roses at Donington just after they broke big.
