Before this week i would have said Top ten.Loaning out Ostigard and Khadra could be big mistakes

Club have a lot of work in the next 3 weeks getting rid of fringe players and bringing in TWO quality signings

We finished 16th last season.
We’ve sold a very important defender.
We have no full backs.
We haven’t addressed our lack of goals issue.

For all the will in the world top 10 seems very optimistic.

Is the right answer, however, think other teams will struggle just as much including Saints, Scum and the three promoted

If we sign ONE of Cucurella or a 8-12 goals a season striker equivalent to Maupay but with different attributes/style then top 10, 95:5 ratio. If we don't then relegation 60:40. Should be trying hard to sign both a WB to allow either Burn or Veltman to play plenty of CB (and Cucurella as one of the best young ones in the world seems a dream) and the complimentary striker though to really secure our future. I think the league is weaker at the bottom this year than most plus stronger at the top, both as a result of covid. Good time to lock ourselves into being a safer PL team.

I think it will be somewhere in between. You can never rule relegation out categorically because the league is always so tight for such a large part of the season, so there's always opportunities to get dragged into the relegation fight. But I really do think there are more than 3 sides worse than us. There's probably about 5 or 6. With that in mind I don't think we'll go down, but a top10 finish still seems like a stretch.

On any given day, what is most likely to happen, is what happened yesterday.

Just like last season, I think we'll be flirting with the fringes of the relegation zone for much of this season, as will several other clubs, but we will have a big enough squad to stay up.

You win or lose games in midfield, where we are blessed with talent, and where Mwepu seems to be as effective as Bissouma.

We'll be ok, whether or not we sign a striker. We're not going to shoot the lights out, but we'll be ok.

We're a long term injury to Lewis Dunk from being relegation candidates.
We're a 15 goal a season striker from being top 10 candidates.

I reckon we'll get between 46 to 52 points.
I hope we can achieve safety as early as possible so I can enjoy the spring months of 2022 and our team can play without fear.

Unless we start putting the ball in the goal, then I can see us struggling yet again. My optimism is waining by the day.

The squad is essentially the same as last season from a 1st team perspective (other than White going and Mwepu coming in).

I can't see anything other than a very similar season to the last to be honest. Don't think we'll be relegated but certainly won't be top ten. 16th again.

I know it's the first game, I know we have players out, but it is going to be very interesting to see how we play and what happens on Saturday and then the first home game.
You can trust Potter that he has something up his sleeve to bamboozle everyone.
I'm going to wait and see what happens after 2 games.
Lose both and play poorly and it could mean we are going to struggle again.

It will be the same forever. Last year, City relied on 19 team being worse than them or they wouldnt have won the title.

Do you know what they did to make sure there was 19 teams not as good as themselves? That’s right, they signed players for positions they were short such Player Of The Season Rùben Dias. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not for a second suggesting that we’re supposed to be competing with the Man City’s of this world, but they strengthen to stay ahead of the opposition, we only finished above 4 teams and our squad is no better, arguably weaker than last season.

As it stands currently I struggle to see how we can finish higher than the 16th place of last season. In my opinion we are weaker than the side that finished last season with problems at full back, lack of width and pace and the ongoing striker issues.
With some time left in the window I expect these issues to be addressed, but failure to do so will leave me absolutely delighted if we finish 16th again.

It may or may not be weaker than the team that finished last season but its stronger than the one that began it. Brighton have a goalkeeper this time around.

Let's hope so. We looked way better with Sanchez in goal last season than Ryan but I'm not sure he'll be happy with either goal that Getafe scored (assuming it was him that organised the wall for the second).

I could see him struggle a little bit more this season, its not uncommon to have a reaction like that when you've had a fecking splendid first season. Still think he'll perform better than the possibly worst-ever PL save ratio Ryan had though.

Fair comment.

GK isn't really a position I'm worried about. I mention the goals from Saturday because, from Sanchez's POV they looked uncharacteristic. Obviously, he is still learning.

As to the thread title itself I think my only reasonable answer is "neither". On the BBC predict the table thread I went for 14th. That was partly based on thinking we have more deals to complete in the window though!
