I could come round and look at it. I'm good at looking at things. I don't think it would do any good though. Maybe Uri Geller could help you. Try the Exeter City forums. Oh, and hide your cutlery.

Thanks for the recommendation - Trevor has just been, and what a fine chap he is.

If all tradesmen were like Trevor, the world would be a better place.

Haha, cheers Bozza!!
Only just seen this thread, otherwise would have been round to help!

Trevor is indeed a good man, went to school / college with him :)

I can’t speak highly enough of you either!

(I didn’t give you a shout as I guessed, perhaps wrongly, that oven repair might be a specialist thing.)

We have an AEG double oven.

It was warming up to cook yesterday and it suddenly stopped working. From the lounge, I thought I was a flash from the kitchen, although I'm not sure as no one else noticed anything. We did hear a sort of bang, not dissimilar to the sound that happens if we leave the grill tray in the oven and it reacts to getting hot. We opened the oven and there seemed to be some smoke, but it didn't smell at all so maybe it was steam. Dunno.

Anyway, neither of the ovens nor the AEG hob above it now turn on at all. The isolation switch on the kitchen wall is in the on position and no fuses in the fuse cupboard have tripped at all.

What's likely to have happened to it, and do you know of anyone Worthing-ish who look at this sort of thing?

Sounds like it might be broken. I’d call an engineer out.

All well and good but what was actually wrong with it - we need to know.....

The element had blown, literally, leaving a hole in the old one. A new one has been popped in and all is well with the world once again.
