Whatever happened to the 'delicate chip'?

(forget about pringles jokes, too too obvious)

When a striker is faced with the keeper and as-usually is the case - several yards off his line, they welly it at low level. It goes straight at the keeper while he's stumbling or crouching, or flies over the bar at pace into row z.

Why the hell do they not chip the ball? The crouching keeper will be beaten every time? Can't a seasoned professional control a deftly chipped pass to a wide open net? Does a saved blast look so much better than a clever chip?

Tis my favourite style of goal.
I always think it makes you look that much more of a 'special' footballer

Was born in 73 and saw a hell of a lot of football there Did you see many games there?

I was born in 91 so only got to go to the Goldstone once, it was my first ever game. I went with my dad and grandad to the 4-4 draw vs Orient! I don't remember any of the game at all but apparently when we scored one of the goals i got my leg stuck in the seat and was screaming in agonly while my dad thought i was celebrating the goal! I still have the ticket now!

Have been to hundreds of Albion games since then though so i guess that makes up for it. I counted that i've been to 68 grounds watching the stripes the other day! so im quite proud about that:)

Fair play. I think my dad went to a similar amount aswell. Living up north obviously means we don't get to as many games as we like, i think we went to 3 home games last season whilst visiting family. Love the away games, so much better atmosphere and the true fans come out for them!

Or the fans with enough money :lolol:

I really don't have the money to go to anywhere near enough away games

Agree the atmosphere tends to be better though

I saw Brett Mendoza score a delicate chip over a keeper in a HOCKEY goal just 30 mins ago. It was special.

Might it have something to do with changes made to the ball. It's now more lighter than it used to be, meaning that there is less certainty that it will drop beneath the crossbar when lifted above the keeper.

Just a thought.
