That squad provided an army of 28,000 to 33,000 fans, with many happy days.
As a kid, it was fantastic to follow them, at a heaving Goldstone.
It was fun to put together player profiles and colour photos of all of that season's squad. See Seagulls TV - 1976/77
I would love to have seen them play live. What great times they must have been, particularly the cup games that season, but also the 7-2 win v York and the second half of 7-0 v Walsall in the League.
Who was our reserve keeper that season ?
Not sure. Steele was signed as cover for Grummitt in February 1977 but I'm not sure who would have taken Grummitt's place if he had been injured earlier. I don't know who kept goal for the reserve side. Derek Forster had left at the end of the previous season.
Steele took over from Grummitt when he signed
With less tv coverage then, I've never seen those 14 goals, or the incredible away cup win at the highly rated WBA.
With 33,500 at the Goldstone it was widely considered to be several thousand more each time, as Bamber like most at the time allegedly fiddled takings from the VAT man. The immense crowds made it unforgettable, and Ward, Mellor, O'Sullivan and Horton rarely disappointed us.
The York game was on MOTD, here is link to youtube (just 2 goals though) and other videos for 76-77:

That Liverpool game when we won 2-0 I was the one who jumped on Terry Connors back at the end, I thank you all
