Actually every city, town and village should have a stocks where people found guilty of minor crimes had to sit for a few hours (or days maybe) and the populace would be encouraged to pelt them with tomatoes and other soft fruit. That would be a far greater deterrent than jail or a fine methinks.

I'd most like to travel back in time and live a life without length and ease and wealth and statistical competition. To get f***ing hungry every now and again. To build. To write at weekends that just last a day and stare at a few hummingbirds with mouths stung by seemingly edible bees. To fancy women with nothing but warts. To just shrug my shoulders and STDs to another person rather than apologise and warn and seek to protect. To die fairly young too, so i had less time to ponder all that's right and wrong and know that conclusions were impossible and ineffective.
