No, Downs is right. I did not read Hillians post properly. Forest, Downs, Heath and Weald were the original ones, Beacon and Coombe came along later on.

My wife went to Tideway and she said they had A,B,C,D,E and F, she said some had names like Dieppe.

And I raise you, Ash, Beech, Elm and Oak at Junior School.

I was in Elm at Patcham and then Moggeridge. The Varndean houses were named after former teachers.
It was amazing how every fourth boy in the alphabetic register was s**t at sport and then the boy immediately following was brilliant!
