What were your house names at school?

They were that when I started  They must've changed them some time between about 1989 and1994. Probably when they changed it to "community college"?

I started there in 1992 and they were Southdown, Ashdown and Downland then. There was also Wealden. I was in that house and we wore a red stripe across our rugby shirts.

I do remember the older boys talking about Fry, Livingstone etc so it must have been shortly before I started.

I also remember they had house colour-coded ties for the old houses and then forced everyone to wear a tie that had all the house colours on it. It was affectionately referred to as 'the Aquafresh tie'.

We had quite a progessive head in the London school I went to and he changed house names from the fairly staid...Churchill, Nelson, Raleigh and Wellington to...Lennon, Harrison, McCartney and Starr. This brought a storm of protest from parents and so he was forced to change to...Sinatra, Crosby, Armstrong and Miller.

Apologies it was Wealden not Southdown; I made that one up.

ahh an old shorehammer! I adopted nelson house as mine as a staff member .....

A little surprised I was the first/only one to post on this thread, there must be quite a few of us around. Do the house names still stand ? Now they've admitted the other gender, I assume things have changed somewhat.

Olds merged with Sandersons not so long ago and is now called School House.

Fields (my house 93-98) is now a girls house although I'm sure people would say it has always been that.

Same for me - when were you there?

well i would have missed you apart from one year maybe and then you would have been completely irrelevant (being 4 years behind me) as I would have been to Goldstone1976 (although i might remember him, he wouldn't me I doubt) and as for Barrel of Fun - he must still be in shorts!:moo:

Eric Meadows OMG = he was my class teacher at Saltdean Primary 1967'8 - he taught the whole class to play the guitar and we could all play "Yellow River" - he made an impression on me in those formative years - RIP Mr M.

I was at Saltdean Primary till '69. Dave Edwards was my class teacher for 2 years (but he never molested me!). I remember Miss Middleton who became Mrs Martin and went off to be a missionary. Miss Reeve was the headmistress. She died 3 or 4 years ago.

Not too many BHSGS OBs on this thread. I was in Ireland 67-74.

Can you remember the song? First two lines:

Absque Labore Nihil
In work and play and life.....

In rivalry of nations
and boyhood's friendly strife
The race goes to the eager
the laggard falls behind
And ever to the ..........?
will fortune's smiles prove kind
