Pease Pottage
Mine was probably my worst and best in one.
Whilst working as a doorman at a nightclub, about 1am on a saturday night, a girl came running up to me saying that her friend had collapsed in the ladies toilet, I went to take a look thinking it was another pissed up clubber who couldn't handle her drink.
Once I got in there it was clear it was more serious, no pulse, not breathing, I then went into auto mode, scooped her up, got her outside whilst shouting to a colleague to call an ambulance.
Luckily I was first aid trained and started CPR, after what felt like an eternity, I managed to get her breathing again just as the paramedics arrived, I then turned into a blubbering mess when the paramedic put his arm round me and said I'd probably just saved the girls life, reality struck and that was me done for.
A few weeks later the girls parents came to the club to thank me personally, I tried the whole " I was just doing my job" line, but the mother was so emotional, that set me off again !
Turns out the girl had taken a pill, on top of an unknown heart condition, I'm glad to say she made a full recovery and we're still friends many years later.
Like I said worst and best all rolled into one, finding someone so lifeless was awful, being able to help her made me very proud.
Just goes to show though, not all doorman are thugs, we do good too.

Brother and myself agreed to take on the lease of a pub in London with no premium, and rent free for a year. Was in the hands of the solicitors and we had commissioned an architect for the refurbishment. Gave my employer 4 weeks notice, on arrival for my last shift of my notice period got a call from the agent to say we had been gazumped. Left with a £10k+ architects bill, solicitors bills, no business and no job. Was shellshocked, felt like the worst day of my life at the time.

Fortunately my employer kept me on and we now own a successful pub which we have had for almost 10 years.

Nothing compared to dealing with death and grief on a daily basis though, massive respect to those that have to, or choose to

The day my mrs had her first ms relapse, my delightful area manager put me on a disciplinary for staying at home to look after her and our then 4 year old son. Eventually had the written warning 6 months later.

Other one was losing a customers car off of a 4 post ramp. The cavalier was in gear on the ramp as the handbrake cable had snapped and I'd just finished fitting mid & rear exhaust on it when my assistant manager helpfully turned the key with the ramp about 3 1/2 feet up with me on the opposite side of the ramp, car started straight away in second gear, moved forward until the front wheels drove over the end, balanced for about 2 seconds before the front end dropped and gripped the floor pulling it off and out of the door across the forecourt towards the main road through Hassocks. Fortunately I'd somehow got around to the drivers side to turn the engine off quick enough to stop anyone being hurt!
