Slappers was that the one across from Teville gate by the roundabout up from Benson - did it become Area51.

Indeed it was, but I had left the area by the time it became Area 51...haven't been to Worthing for the best part of a decade, believe the whole area might have been flattened as part of the Teville Gate redevelopment.

Flappers was knocked down years ago, probably 7 years now. Went out in Worthing a couple of months back when i was down, It really is struggling these days - I don't think it ever really recovered from losing the Wine Lodge or Frog Pond. bit of a lack of pubs these days and is very much a Wethersppons sort of town these days. Shame as i used to quite like it or maybe i've just got older and out grown the place.

First really big night out was the Zap about 1989, with a big fat Purple ohm :rave:

Likewise. A Friday night called Fundemental. Had a gyro weightlessness thingy in there. And Guru Josh played live. Still got the flyer somewhere

From memory the Frog Pond was OK, never went to the Wine Lodge and tended to avoid Cloisters. I can remember a place in the Guildborne Centre that looked like an Austrian beer house, if you had a vivid imagination, might have been called the Tiroler or something like that. Worthing was a pretty good laugh as a night out, possibly because it was one of the few places in the county that young people could afford to live...from what you say it seems like many of us have moved on with our lives, but Worthing hasn't.

I got refused entry to a pub in Warwick Street when the bloke on the door spotted me rubbing out some letters on their menu board...changing "unbeatable prices" to "uneatable rices"...I saw the funny side of it, he didn't.

The Hill of The Gun
Sunday night at the Top Rank Suite circa 1969
Skinhead crop, Mohair suit, Ben Sherman shirt , and loafers.

Saw the Beatles at the Hippodrome around 1964. My Mum queued for hours to get a ticket for myself and my cousin. Could not hear a thing throughout the whole concert because of the screaming.

The site is now a block of flats with a Majestic Wine shop on the ground floor.
