a nice rusty, bronze coloured 1.1L Golf. old R reg. used to have to blow through the in line fuel filter every 5-10 miles, as the rust from the petrol tank would block it up, causeing the car to stop. so i was always high on petrol fumes. still, it had a lovely armrest inside the door. so whilst the car was moving at least i looked cool.

The free state of Kemp Town
A beautiful black F-reg MG Metro with go-faster MG badging and rear spoiler.

Only a 1275cc engine but it didn't half move, considering it was in essence just a Metro.

I loved it to bits and the thing was in pristine condition when I picked it up. Lovely bodywork, lush deep and comfy seats, flashy interior with space age clock. Sadly however the average life span of an A-series engine was about 80,000 miles and once I was pushing it towards 90,000 it preferred the local garage to its own and ended up costing me a small fortune in replacement gearboxes, spark plugs, clutches, alternators etc.

People laughed at me for driving a Metro but I'd have it back in an instant if it was still running.

Here is a picture I found which is almost identical. But mine had front fog lamps and the rear spoiler.

If you type the words "ford fiesta" into Yahoo image search...well, I'd best not click on it at work.

84 I think. Cost 100 quid and got 18 months of use out of it only having to replace a wiper blade.

Had this random turbo stick like 2nd gear which burnt loads of fuel and made the engine louder but didnt really to anything else. Had 105 out of it without realising. Beauty

Bit like this one

Yeah, and I can remember the branding my infant legs used to get from sitting on the leather-effect seats in the summer of '76!!

Dad's was orange, like in the photo.

Way out west
V Reg (first time round) MkII Escort, was a rust magnet, engine failed on me completely and had to be rebuilt, mind you it used to get me back from the West Country to watch the Albion play so it wasn't all bad. After getting rid of it I vowed never to buy another Ford, my next car was an Orion, after that I renewed my vow and that time I meant it. Since then I have had a Vauxhall, Honda, BMW and now a VW. After this and the last car I will probably stick with German cars for the forseable future, unless I win the lottery and can afford either something Italian or British.
