Because at Steyning Grammar School I was in Holland House, and we had to wear red football shirts.
And this was the first football shirt I ever had with a team badge on it, circa 1975/6, I was a member of the LUFC fan club, and bought the badge from there with my pocket money, then sewed it onto my [white] school football shirt.
I had lived most of my life overseas, and had no idea where Leeds was, let alone anything else, but my folks had bought me a white football shirt, I didn't fancy Spurs and I rated Tony Currie as my favourite player.
A home shirt circa 1973/74 bought from the sports shop in London Road, near the old Coop. In those days you couldnt buy an Albion shirt just a blue and white stripped one that probably found its way into Sheff Wed and Huddersfield supporters wardrobes too. My first ever shirt was a Wolves shirt circa 1967, bought in Burgess Hill. Only reason...I liked the colours! I was 6.
Bukta job, possibly bought from Tony Smith's Sports in Horsham. No picture I'm afriad lost it years ago. Still have an England top, the Admiral? with the red and blue horizontal band at the top of the shirt (Kevin Keegan Classic)
