It would have been to give them a 30 min run out to stretch their legs and keep them sharp in what had turned into a training game for us. Not sure what the science behind it is, but the one time I've stayed behind after the final whistle the non-playing subs all did some warm down exercises on the pitch for about half an hour afterwards.I was less loving of that, it all felt a bit unnecessary.
They clearly enjoyed themselves when on, it may well have shaken off some 'weight' they've been carrying since Wembley, so in hindsight great move.
But at the time I thought it was a flex that was asking for trouble.
