How about one I bought Christmas Eve - Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. It's a best of compilation that really brings home how much influence the band had in Motown and Northern Soul. I never knew that they wrote the original "Sun ain't gonna shine anymore" and the Bay City Rollers hit "Bye Bye Baby".

Also been listening to Grace Jones - The Compass Point Sessions. I've posted about this album on NSP so won't go into it here. Suffice to say it blows me away how good it is.

EDIT - loads of albums in the past have hit the spot:

Carole King - Tapestry
Beth Orton - TrailerPark
Portishead - Dummy
Blondie - Parallel Lines
New Order - Substance
Radiohead - The Bends
Stone Roses - Stone Roses
Everything but the Girl - Walking Wounded
Apollo 440 - Electroglide in Blue
Rolling Stones - Exile On Main Street
Beatles - Abbey Road
Sugarcubes - Life's too good
Squeeze - 45s and under
Black - Wonderful Life
Nick Cave - Murtder Ballads
Happy Monday - Pills, thrills and Bellyaches
Smiths - Strangeways, here I come.

Christ....there's loads. Come on THPP. Get thinking

Could that be because there hasn't been anything that good for the last thirty years? Except Eyes Open of course. ???

I was a bit late getting into Vampire Weekend - got the album for Christmas - but it's mighty fine.
Good call from Buzzer with Sugarcubes' Life's Too Good. Great album. Remember seeing them at Portsmouth Guildhall in 1989, and Reading Festival too. Need to get it on my Ipod.
