I still have no idea what Gus' thinking was today. Not a clue. Can anyone help?

You need to ask Gus. I won't be. Inquest should stop here. Concentrate on three points against Watford . That is what my questions to him would be about.

Move on and soon.

To keep some fans grounded and make them realise that we're not actually ready for the Premiership, despite him saying on many occasions?

Trying to prove a point to TB about the need for lots of money for team building. I felt the biggest statement was using our own full-backs who were barely good enough last year.

the headline in the argus says it all. no loan players apart from one who was took off. he wants his team ready at the start. todays team was that at the start of this season. not good enough to go up. having said that what we have achieved is amazing, but gus wants the pemiership with or without us. maybe it was a subtle hint to the chairman, if it was it hit home big time.

The disgrace is, he did it when we still had a slim chance of the playoffs! Not to mention all the fans who paid good money to go to the match.

Brezovan - in goal because he has generally been doing enough to keep the shirt
Greer and El Abd - first choice pairing for centre backs.
Painter - mattock injured, Reyes did ok, but we still lost. Painter a natural left back.
Calderon - generally been doing well since he returned due to reyes red card

Vicente - world class player, always going to start if he is fit
bridcutt - back in the team as he was an ever present beforehand, and we lost both games without him
Navarro - his partnership with Bridcutt has generally been a solid base for us.
Dicker - Not entirely sure. Gus likes him, but what he adds to the team isn't obvious. I guess an argument can be made to stop west ham becoming a psychological block because of his injury against them
Assulin - premier league loanee, not been fit enough to contribute, time to give him a go because he has done well enough coming off the bench

Barnes - Top scorer while being played out of position, chances may not come too often need someone who isn't completely lacking in confidence at the moment.

Pack the midfield to compensate for their size and strength advantage. Hopefully tire them enough and bring the pace (lualua, noone, cms) on late in the game to capitalise on tired opponents.

Unfortunately we collapsed before the game even got going.

TB did give him lots of money and Poyet spunked 2.5m on CMS. If I was TB I would be a little more reluctant to hand it over.

How about:

"Do you think your typical Latino trait of constantly shitting your pants about the opposition rather than simply selecting a side free to play to their strengths will ultimately frustrate your ambitions to be a top manager one day?"

That is the question to be asked.

i can understand your point but i wonder if gus felt cms could be moulded into the player he wanted. look at vicente, a winger by trade but gus felt he had the ability to be the creator in the middle. got that one right! unfortunatley for cms it has not worked.

If Barnes is our left sided midfielder and occasional striker then why play him up front on his own today ?
No winger ?
Dicker needed 3 or 4 games in the reserves before he got anywhere near a first team recall . . . . . . . Oh and what happened to our reserves by the way ?
Greer never attacks crosses but wants to play as a cultured sweeper. Well he can't in a flat back four.He just turned his back on 2 or 3 crosses today and allowed their men to win headers and at least one of their goals came because of that. Crazy set up today but that was basically last seasons team minus Murray and Bennett replaced by Assulin and Vicente. Oh well thank god for alcohol tonight.

No CMS no Buckley no Lua Lua bloke is a fool.
Lua and cms would go together and 2 of our wingers will causevtrouble. It's boring but true. Hey I'm not better than Gus yawn. Great man manager great enthusiasm poor at team selection. Oh I am so much better than Gus but then again he probably hadn't even played championship manager. Wish I didn't spend my weekend and cash on westham game. Fat sam won! I lost! Hey great season that will be remembered by Doncaster Liverpool palace and west ham. Hmmm

I imagine the idea might have been to contain the opposition early on
Relying on Vicente and Assulin s pace n trickery to create the chances for Barnes
Because of how narrow the pitch was it left no space for our usual wingers to roam into
Alas it went badly wrong early on and too many players had an off day
Despite the score there were a few passages of play that were very good
Just one of those days im afraid Lets put it right on Tuesday
Its not over til its over
