Local.
National.
International.

Mine are all a bit late, so either nothing happened in the second half of the 70's or my memory is shitehouse.
I think they'll change, but as it stands:-

Local (Sussex) - Athina B, '80.
National - Heatwave, '76.
International - Iran, '79.

I recall watching a lot about the Falklands but nothing truly specific as I was quite young. I remember Terry Waite being taken hostage in 87 very well. Berlin Wall coming down.
Oh and vegetables that looked like genitalia seemed to be quite the thing in the 80’s.

MS Estonia in 1994.

Or maybe the JAS Gripen crashing in Stockholm in 1993, but that could be my mind playing tricks on me.

Local - West Pier closing c. 1975
National - 3 day week and power cuts (though I didn't understand the politics) early 1974
International - Yom Kippur war in Israel seemed to be in the news a lot 1973.

Seems until the age of 8 I was blissfully in my own little world playing "war" around The Good Shepherd Church grounds, Dyke Road Park and along Reigate Road with my mates.

Deepest, darkest Sussex
Local - Selsey tornado 1998
National - Blair winning in 1997
International - Diana dying

I was heavily into Euro 96 so that might count for either of the last two technically, but as actual news rather than sport it's probably those.

International - Assassination of JFK - November 1963

I'm very tempted to call a foul on Albion answers to local news.

Bruce Parker did the NEWS before handing the SPORT over to a young hip sports jock!

That's a great question. Its hard to think what the earliest were. Mine all seem to start around the age of 6 or 7.

Local - Babes in the wood 86
National - Hand of God 86
International - The Challenger explosion 86

The first ones that came to mind are the Yorkshire Ripper and the liberation of Cambodia. Both late 70s and dominated the news for many weeks/months. I particularly remember listening to that tape of the Geordie claiming to be the Ripper. Chilling. I can’t think of any local stories from that time.

Hmmm ... not sure about local. Maybe the floods in central Brighton that caused the library to close (I used to go every week and was gutted when I couldn't get in)

National - Macmillan resigning and be replaced by ADH

International - JFK assassination ... no contest

I've convinced myself I can remember Lockerbie - had some distant relations die on the ground - but I'm fairly sure that's not actually true and I remember my parents talking about it after the fact.

Probably the first one I can definitely remember myself would be the Balkans, particularly Bosnia starting in 92.

Local - there was a lot of bun-fighting about swimming pools for the 1992 General Election in my town. National would be probably be the same General Election.

What a great question.
Born in 1955 so I'm going through google to see what happened each year.
Don't remember JFK in 1963
World Cup in '66 but not winning it.
Sunday roasts every week in the 60's and almost cracking my head open on the concrete coal bunker outside, about 1965.
Do remember my school days in the mid 70's
But the first major event must be the moon landing.

Fair call although, in my defence, Albion news was the only news I was interested in at that time and that was a big local news story!!!

Oi, I deserve a tip of the hat for dragging 'Bruce Parker' out of a dusty recess in my memory.
