A Perfect Circle (Half Tool half Smashing Pumpkins - ish) at the Hammersmith Apollo.

BEST gig however was the Pixies at Ally Pally. I won't lie, I cried with joy.

UB40 at the Brighton Centre - just after Red Red Wine had come out, in I think 1984. They were still not entirely uncool at this point of their career, although not for too much longer - Rat In Me Kitchen was just around the corner.

God it was LOUD. Then a punch-up broke out in the standing area which prompted Ali Campbell to break off one song halfway through and get the bouncers to throw out those scrapping. The two Middle Eastern gentlemen sitting next to me smoked a spliff so large throughout proceedings that they seemed to have little idea when songs were starting or finishing, or indeed probably whether they were watching UB40 or Adam and the Ants or Spandau Ballet.

All of which was terribly impressive to a gauche, impressionable 13 year old. My second gig - The Police on Xmas Eve at the same venue later that year - was better.

Remember that fight and that night well. My first concert was two years previously same band, same venue and even the same date, November 3rd, I still have a "Derek Block" presents UB40 poster kicking around somewhere.

They played there on those dates for about 5 years, the one in '82 I remember shitting myself as my older brother, who took me and a mate, told us the National Front were going to be there, and if we got split up, run home along the seafront...all 12 miles to Seaford, great night but spent most of the time looking for skinheads to avoid.

Ozzy Osbourne at the Dome on Halloween (!), 1980. Budgie were supposed to be the support act, but they pulled out for some reason, and a bunch of pissed up/off bikers started chucking stuff at the unfortunate replacement band. For a sheltered 14 year this was terrifying and thrilling at the same time.

My first gig was blink 182 in 2004, was blinding. completely got the bug for gigs since then, seen oasis twice, ocean colour scene, stereophonics thrice, courteeners, the enemy thrice, sex pistols, stiff little fingers four times, emmy the great, james, manic street preachers, paul weller, the rifles, dead sixties, kasabian, fratellis, jack penate, red hot chilli peppers, biffy clyro, twin atlantic, and have tickets to the foo fighters, with biffy clyro and death cab for cutie and a ticket for the arctic monkeys.

Impressive list - I also love my gigs. The first i ever went to was The Stranglers at Crawley Leisure Centre in 1979 since then I have seen . . . The Clash, The Adverts, The Jam (x 2), UB40 (x 4), Shakatak, Steel Pulse, Simple Minds (x 5), Big Country (x 5), Level 42, Kid Creole and the Coconuts, The Sex Pistols (x 3), David Bowie, Oasis (x 2), Busted, Basement Jaxx, Celine Dion, U2 (x 2), Fall Out Boy, Louise (Redknapp, former Eternal singer), Coldplay (x 2), Richard Ashcroft (of The Verve), The Editors (x 2), Kaiser Chiefs (x 2), Madness, The Specials, Spandau Ballet, Depeche Mode, OMD (Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark), Take That, Arctic Monkeys, The Killers, Green Day, The Enemy, Kasabian, Paul Weller, Hard-Fi, White Lies, Snow Patrol and Kings of Leon. Still got my ticket stubs for a lot of these gigs as well!

A fairly eclectic list - some are not to my taste and is where I have taken my wife/daughter/son to see artistes that they like. Also some of these have been seen as support acts. Some of the older bands which I didn't get to see the first time round I have seen on their re-union tours.

Next up is Kasabian again at The Brighton Centre in November.

Actually first saw Kasabian supporting Oasis at Heaton Park (with The Enemy as well) and they were quality so really looking forward to the gig. Just out of interest where did you see the Pistols? Was that at Brixton Academy?

Are they still going! How was it. They came and played at our Uni in Swansea the week they had their big hit it was great. We got invited to the after gig party but were disappointed to find they just sat there and drank tea - not very rock n' roll!
