The Port of Noddy Holder
Gary Glitter at the Dome 1974( I feel little dirty now)

First festival Reading 78.... Sham 69, Jam , Penetration , The Business and Chelsea and load of AOR bands .
Seemed huge to me then , although after 125,000 at Knebworth for Queen and subsequent Castle Doningtons and Readings ,it now seems quite small in comparison.
................Never Glastonbury , not then , not now.

First gig was actually a free festival on Newcastle quayside a couple of years ago, was only 16 and got absolutely hammered watching the likes of Maximo Park, The Enemy, Calvin Harris, Echo and the Bunnymen, top day out haha.

First proper gig was Snow Patrol who were absolutely quality.

I always remember at Christmas there was Garry Glitter's Gang Show followed by Madness and/or Status Quo

Happy days

You are right . There seemed to be a regular touring format to christmas . There was many a year when it wasn'y truly christmas without seeing GG , Thin Lizzy , The Damned and Motorhead.
Generally had to travel for the latter two. The Damned because of the self imposed ban from Brighton by Rat Scabies following Palace fans getting a good shoeing at the Top Rank in 1979. Well ,Sensible was wearing a Palace shirt on stage FFS!!!
And Motorhead were banned by the council for destroying their Top rank dressing room in 1977.
Thankfully both are now regulars to our fair city.

I did lighting for a Gary Glitter gig in Chelsea in the late 70's when he had fallen from major fame and before he was known for his anti-social activities. He was doing a sound check and I was fixing the lighting rig and had a ladder on my shoulder, turned round and it hit him in the back and knocked him off the stage - I felt bad about it at the time, but feel so much better about it now.

Nine Below Zero, Eric Clapton and ZZ Top playing a charity gig at the NIA in the early 90s, when I was about 8/9, with my parents. Was disappointing as Clapton didn't play any of the hits (it was when he'd got back into blues and played only that) and I had no idea who ZZ Top were.

First gig of my own volition (excluding trekking around the country to see various unheralded indie bands in the back rooms of pubs) was probably Snow Patrol at Moles in Bath, about a month before Final Straw was released. They were excellent, and I'll bet they haven't played such a small gig since!

Ibiza to the Norfolk Broads
I saw them there supported by Ride in January 1995 and round the back at "the top rank suite"? in 94 on the day Ireland beat Italy in the world cup in New York - they came on about 5 minutes after the final whistle, funny that.....

That gig was at the Brighton Centre East Wing.

One of my most dissapointing gigs that one. Never bothered seeing Oasis again
