What to do at the Labour Conference?

If phase II of the planning enquiry is not started/complete, what action should we take at the conference to raise the Falmer issue again?

As has been pointed out, JP seems be be doing what he can to say yes, but in a way where it cam't be challenged. Now, as frustrating as this is, negative reaction at the Labour Conference can do nothing but harm our case.

We need to think of actions to raise the profile but in a positive way.

Suggestions please.

I'd be in favour of a massive lobby on the Sunday eve of conference, delegates will have been in town 24 hours, maximum turnout, but no bitterness or stupid direct action, instead a carnival, family-style occasion putting forward the campaigning slogan "There's only one site in Brighton".

Oh, and lots of nice banners saying thanks to Prescott for all those areas where he has overturned Hoile/Collyer. We should greet the Labour conference like putting an arm round a friend in the pub that we haven't seen for a long time. The object is to create even more friends amongst the politicos.

Knock out tens of thousands of Falmer For All badges and posters and distribute them to shops, restaurants and people in the street so they're right in the face of Labour delegates everywhere they go. Whatever exclusion zone they set up can't include the whole town, so just set banners and stuff all along the perimeter. Maybe (bit tree-huggy this) a human chain chanting We Want Falmer all around the Conference Centre zone. Creative use of stripey deckchairs anyone? Five hundred-a-side match between the piers on the beach. Jackets for goalposts. Mmmm. Isn't it? Marvellous.

As RLZ said on another thread, and as has been said here too, we need to do something positive and that won’t be detrimental to our course.

By not saying yes before the conference, Prescott won’t be met by cheering football fans, but by not saying no, he will also not be met by jeers.

I’m sure positive ways of reinforcing the message for Falmer will be in place in time.

Ahem...

To do anything at the party conference requires all sorts of planning and discussion with the authorities.

Sunday has already been booked by another organisation who are planning a massed event in connection with public sector jobs.

But don't rule out the possibility that certain people might have been talking in certain quarters about certain things.

Campaigning isn't necessarily best left until the last minute.

Point taken Lord B - however some of the ideas posted above look like good ideas.

Also - what about targetting specific events in Brighton that it is known Labour politicians will attend - for example they always spend some time at the BTLC in Lewes Road?

I suggest we have every good looking female in Brighton get naked and then body painted in blue and white stripes- parading up and down the prom for the duration of the conference carrying Falmer Yes placards.

Don't know what impact that would have on Falmer but it would cetainly make me feel happier
