7:45 seems a reasonable compromise to me... Any earlier and you are clashing with rush hour out of London and because we are so reliant on trains it would cause [even more] travel chaos. Any later and you start running into issues getting home and you would lose the kids who are old enough to make it on a school night at 7:45.
However, neither the positives nor the negatives make a jot of difference really. The 7:45 slot suits SKY because they can start their program at 7:30, finish at 10:00 and grab the peak evening audience and thus the advertising revenue.
Any earlier/later and the ad breaks don't fall in the desired time windows!
