I am one of those old fashioned people who believe that ALL pubs within a 1 mile radius of a ground should not be permitted to open until at least 30mins after the end of a game.
I'm not sure how that's old fashioned. Most pubs have always opened before games. The simple fact is the police would almost rather have the pubs open so they know where the fans are. It's so easy to get alcohol these days anyway that if people want to drink before games they will. Pub or no pub.
Going to football, like going to the pub is a social event. If you don't want to go to the pub first that's fine, but lots of people do, it's an ideal meeting point to start with.
I don't see what the problem is myself. If people want to drink, they will. If people want to fight, they will. The pub is irrelevant.
