That's the bloody place that after we'd done the sensible thing & gone to the entrance to Wembley Central Station, we were directed to go back up the road & turn right by the 'Royal' Chicken shop as the front of the station had been turned into 'Exit Only'! :lolol:
Walking down that road made me realise how lucky I am living in Newhaven

What else do you expect though, when 81,000 people are all leaving at the same time on a Sunday evening. It is what it is, as someone once said.

I think that's the wrong question. What we should be asking is "With 81.000 people at the stadium how can we make life easier for them and ease their travel?" Judging by our experiences, there appears to have no attempt to help facilitate a smooth departure.

One obvious fix (and one that the Albion use) is to keep the bars open after the game so several thousand stay behind and stagger leaving times. The Albion (and other stadiums) also organise a queuing system at stations so it's not a mad free-for-all. The stadium could also install a proper wi-fi system so that it's possible to use maps to help plot an exit (or position maps around the area) so that we don't get punters doubling back on themselves having gone down the wrong route.

It's never going to be a slick operation moving so many people from one place but it could be so much better. As I said earlier, the Millennium Stadium can do it, there's no reason why Wembley couldn't

We laughed at their use of the word “Restaurant”.
Further down the road……their dreams didn’t end well.

back in Worthing at 9.45 - we parked on a drive and drove like the wind
SNAP, back in Findon by 9.45, having parked in a driveway. It's a trick I learned during the Euros. Works like a dream for Wembley. Must book it for the final.. oh.

I didn’t see many pigeons around
I know someone that used to sell their 'no longer required' racing pigeons to a curry takeaway. They didn't end up in someones takeaway dish though, pigeon was considered as a delicacy to the owners.

Got back to my gaff on Lewes road about 11. Had to get a train from Lewes after ending up on the one to Hastings..
Queue for taxis at station was huge so walked the last bit

Back in Brighton around 10 by train. Underground was ok and train from Victoria left within 10 mins of getting there. Journey wasn’t too bad other than having to share it with arrogant Man U fans (who surely should have been heading north?) plus the usual half and half scarf wearers

That has reminded me, on the walk to Wembley Central station after the match I saw this……not sure what is royal about it  View attachment 160103
As we were turned down this road for the 'event day' entrance, I did wonder why it was called 'London Road' as to my mind I thought I was IN London! Then I remembered that aerial photo someone posted on here of Wembley being built - surrounded by fields.

Went with Seagull Travel due to no trains along the coast. We got there very early but it also meant we were about the third coach to leave afterwards. Crawled from Wembley down to Brentford but clear after that. Back in Ferring for 10:30pm having seen messages from mates who had got caught up in the tube hassle and were delayed getting home.

9.15 in Haywards Heath

Walked straight out when the final pen went in (sorry, bad fan), got the 19.43 from Wembley Stadium station into Marylebone, walked straight onto a Bakerloo train, then straight onto a Victoria one at Oxford Circus. Quick pit stop for a drink at Smiths then on the 20.16 to Brighton, taxi back to home.

Most charmed journey ever. About the only thing that went right.

Back home in South Yorkshire by midnight. Biggest delay being the wait to get into Wembley Park underground. Once there train full of celebrating southern Mancs to cope with. Finally back to the car and Sally Satnav guided me through back streets to M 25 and ,M1 .

Got to my front door in Worthing at midnight.

Was planning on making a getaway a couple of mins before the final whistle to avoid train chaos with my 9 yr old (he had a bad experience on the Worthing- Brighton train for the Grimbsy game- he fainted in a pretty unpleasant crush and is now a bit apprehensive about being a sardine on the tube or train). But penalties ruled that strategy out!

It took us ages to get out of the ground from the back of the upper tier. The ground was emptied out by the time we got out to the concourse, so the queue for Wembley Park was pretty much at the bottom of the steps from the stadium. We waited for a bit but went nowhere and decided to walk to Central instead- much better, waited about 20 mins for a tube there and had a nice chat with a couple of friendly Utd fans while we did. Got a seat on the Bakerloo line, tried to change at Green Park for Jubilee to London Bridge, but that was completely rammed, the only people getting off was some poor old guy being carried off the tube by his mates who looked like he'd fainted in the crush.
Jumped back on the Bakerloo to Waterloo then a much less crowded Jubilee to LB, got there about 9.45.

Was nervous that it would be a massive queue for National Rail at LB, but it was good. Managed to get a seat on the 10.06 home then got a lift from my old man (hero!) back to Worthing from Preston Park.
