So much of the time it's McDonald's you see, a lot of it obviously thrown out of car windows on many rural Sussex roads. Stupid people eating food designed for stupid people. McDonald's should be themselves penalised in some way - they should have big signs up in their stores about littering and some sort of supermarket trolley style scheme where you get a free small portion of fries or complimentary copy of The Sun if you return your McDonald's rubbish to them, or any McDonald's rubbish you've seen dropped, even if it wasn't yours, on your next visit to one of their 'restaurants'

Rubbish left on beaches is equally irritating, gets into the seas and causes great harm in the same way that rural littering impacts on wildlife.

Sadly it wouldn't work on a big scale with McDonald's, but there was a story a couple of years ago about a Kent village that suffered from loads of littering (mainly from schoolkids). The local newsagent wouldn't sell them anything unless he wrote their name on the crisp packet, coke can etc that they bought. Funnily enough they were much less likely to litter if their name was on it.

Would be pretty difficult to write a name on a fun size Mars bar though.

McDonald's, BBQs, Beer and fireworks. Sounds like you stumbled on the remains of a 4th of July Independence Day party. Maybe the culprits were American tourists. Either way it's disgusting and can not be condoned. I live in the US right now and people are actually pretty responsible with trash these days... I was partying on the beach and everyone takes bags of rubbish away.

But on the flip side of the coin - how many times have you passed bins
absolutely teeming with rubbish - and no space - this is just as bad as it encourages
people to think - no point -
