Darren Bent is class at this level, and still very quick. The only errors he seems to make are not really errors at all. Sometimes he makes blind passes into open space that no-one picks up. But I realised yesterday that the issue was a lack of initiative on behalf of those around him. You can tell he has been playing at a higher level.

We need to put him out the equation though. I don't think he'll stay.

it is the defensive ability in midfield thats the problem. there's plenty of talent there, and alot if creative, but its all constircted by nervousness that when out of possession we are very vulnerable, so they stand off, or dont get as forward, take fewer risks, are generally less confident. get a solid defensive minded midfielder in who can take authority in the middle of the park, protect the defense and cover the full backs, and we'll see 4-5 of the other players confidence grow and the supply will come to Bent.

of course if we lose Bent, then we do still need someone who can put away the oppurtunities.

Bridcutt on loan or possibly Diarra after Monday. Probably be Andrews in January.

Ridiculous thread as it is not relevant. We have the strikers to put the ball in the net the problem as everybody is aware is the supply go them. That is what we have to improve.

Colunga
Baldock
CMS
O'Grady
Bent

Those are the strikers who between them have had 103 shots for a return of 8 goals, three of which were against lower division opponents, 2 of which came from a premier league striker we have on loan for one month.

Of those five, one is currently out injured, two are out of favour and so out on loan, one is borrowed from a premier league team and is out of our price range, the other is someone who can't get into the team unless circumstance help (injuries, loans being rotated out of the match squad).

There are times when the decision making and service from midfield can be better, and might lead to more goals. But to suggest the only reason that our poor selection of strikers have not scored more, is the poor service from midfield is laughable.

bent is as good as we could hope for
but he needs service
not the type of striker who can score individual goals
can Lua Lua march tex McCourt or colunga provide the ammo?
are there better wide attackers or attacking central
midfielders available in January?
maybe a short term solution is the best
keep bent
find a creative talent on loan(ravel Morrison would be lovely)
let the rest of the failed loanees go back
then we need a bit of managerial talent to get the best out of
bent and a playmaker ...mmm oh well

Messy, Rovaldo and Suez should do it. All available.

Baldock will be back and all 3 are proven goalscorers so yes they are. The important signings are a DM possibly Diarra and an attacking midfielder. Two come to mind Forest are prepared to let Henri Lansbury go and Watford Lewis McGuggan both would solve the problem plus get Stephens fit.

You do a very good impression of somebody that has absolutely zero idea about football, commendable effort

If we can keep Bent, then get KLL, Stephens and Diarra all fit it could transform the team, assuming Sami then picks a formation that plays to our strengths.

Probably a tall order to expect Stephens and Diarra to hit the ground running but they have the physique to impose themselves on games. Their presence should allow JFC to take up a more advanced role.

A fit KLL would presumably get the nod over March for now. We miss KLL's unpredictability and his presence also creates fear among defenders. He also contributes precious goals.

IMHO a midfielder like Lansbury or McGuggan would provide the ammunition we are missing for our strikers, whether we can afford them is another question.

And even if we can afford them, would their club's be willing to sell them, or loan them out?, and would the players want to come to us? All too many 'ifs' in my opinion.

Agreed re KLL. talking of which, does anyone know when Kaz will be back? Progress on the injury he suffered against Fulham
seems thin on the ground.

Burnley last season, 10 very disciplined organised players and Danny Ings was enough to get them promoted. Interestingly he often had a strike partner to assist in occupying defenders in the shape of Vokes.

They didn't really have any other outstanding players but played very well together and made it tricky for the opposition to play against them. Subsequently they got promoted.

We've got someone who can score for fun in Bent but we don't currently have the disciplined organised workers that we need or the attacking foil to help occupy defenders or make opportunities for him to score.

It appears that plan A isn't working in a team that should be as good as last years.
Kuzsczak, Upson, Ward, Buckley, Dave, Ulloa replaced by
Stockdale, Dunk, Bennett, Bennett, Tex, Bent

Also Burnley had a small squad of decent players where we have a large squad of predominately lge1 players and Sami constantly changes the team
