....could you recommend. Games that don't need sophisticated boards, dice and suchlike malarky. Just playing cards, pens and paper etc. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance for your suggestions. Have a splendid Xmas one and all.

Palmanism (?) easy card game, look it up, very simple to play even for kids, too complicated for me to explain!

The one where you stick a name on the person to your left's head and they get 20 questions to guess who they are, always ends up with us in a heap of laughter.

Depends on the make up of your guests and whether you have a PC that can connect to a TV. But the Jackbox Party series of games for the PC, XBox or PS4 caused much merriment for us last year. A series of silly games that are run from the TV but players can interact with using their phone/tablet/PC. They just go to a website, login with a 4 digit code and they get a webpage where they can draw, enter text or whatever the game requires. Probably best played with adults as it can get blue depending on the answers given but also suitable for families as the players dictate how family safe or otherwise it is. We will be trying the third one tomorrow. Bit like Pictionary, Blankety Blank or a few other games depending on the game chosen. Drawful is a good laugh.

I know it's not paper or card based but most people have a phone or tablet as long as you have a PC or console that can run the game.
